Alfred Robert "Bob" Briere, age 74, of Battle Creek, MI passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016 in Battle Creek, Michigan. He had been ill for about a year. His parents were Alfred H. Briere and Stephanie (Strycharz) Briere. He moved to Trenton, MI in the early 1950's with his family, and graduated from Trenton High School. He attended the University of Michigan and graduated from the U. of M. Engineering School. He worked for over 30 years for Michigan Department of Transportation as a Traffic Safety Engineer, spending most of his career working in the district office in Kalamazoo, MI. He felt strongly in working for the greater good, taking pride in intersections that could save lives. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of the intersections in southwest Michigan. He lived in Battle Creek. After retirement he volunteered for several years at Battle Creek Health System. He is survived by his wife, Betsy (Edgar) Briere; his son, Sid Briere; step-sons, Kelly and Brian Clissold; two grandsons; five step-grandchildren; and his sister, Gabriela Briere. He was predeceased by his parents and one son. He enjoyed planning trips, traveling to National Parks, long walks, attending concerts and visiting museums. He also enjoyed time with his grandchildren and visiting family and friends, both locally and back in Massachusetts. He was known as the organizer of luncheons to bring together friends and former co-workers. Family will receive friends Friday, October 28, 2016 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm & 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Craig Kempf Funeral Home, Marshall Chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 11:00am at the Marshall United Methodist Church, 721 Old US 27 North with Reverend Patricia Bromberek officiating. Interment will take place at Battle Creek Memorial Park. A luncheon will follow the interment at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Battle Creek Community Foundation Endowment Funds for the Food Bank or Haven of Rest. Arrangements by Craig Kempf Family Funeral Homes.
