Ada Shipley Folz, age 89, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away peacefully at Park Place Assisted Living on October 29, 2016. She was one of ten children born to Clarence and Ava Shipley and grew up on the family dairy farm in Guernsey County, Ohio. Ada moved to Columbus, Ohio to attend The Ohio State University, and then moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan, to be near her beloved aunt Mildred Shipley Wallace. Ada lived in Kalamazoo the rest of her life, where she raised two children of whom she was very proud, and became active in the community. Ada enjoyed her volunteer activities at her children's schools; at the Kalamazoo First Presbyterian Church; and with the Service Club of Kalamazoo. Later, after her children were grown, she worked many years for the Dean of Student Services at Kalamazoo College and then for the Presbytery of Lake Michigan. She loved gardening, antiquing, and decorating, and her homes always showed it. Ada is survived by her children Joseph (Ellen) Folz of Milton, Georgia and Jennifer (Mills) Perry of Appleton, Wisconsin; her grandchildren Emily and Alex Folz, both of Atlanta, and Matthew and Andrew (Rebecca) Perry, both of Appleton; her brothers Robert (Caryl) Shipley of Antrim, Ohio, Willard (Laura) Shipley of Zanesville, Ohio, and William (Hazel) Shipley of Fairview, Ohio; her sister Isabelle Shipley Buoni of Baltimore, Ohio; her former brother-in-law John (Beverly) Folz of Kalamazoo; and numerous nieces and nephews she loved as her own. Ada was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Harold Shipley; and her sisters Anne Shipley Busche; Elaine Shipley Hope; Janie Shipley Smylie; and Kathryn Shipley Blamble. At Ada's emphatic request, cremation has taken place and there will be no memorial. Arrangements were by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. The family asks that anyone who wishes to remember Ada donate in her name anything they wish to any worthy cause of their choosing, or simply do a good deed for someone else while thinking of her.
