Darrell "Cork" Lee Smith, 68, of Fulton, died April 20, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospice Residence, Battle Creek. He was born September 24, 1945, the son of William and Eilene (Baker) Smith in Mt. Vernon, OH. Darrell served active duty in the U.S. Army from 1966 until 1968 and as a reservist until 1972. He worked as a Programmer in the Information Technology Department for Kraft/General Foods for 25 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Vicksburg and volunteered with St. Vincent DePaul Society. Darrell is survived by his wife, Barbara (Ackerman) Smith, of Fulton; sons, Christopher J. Smith of Battle Creek and Robin C. Smith of South Carolina; mother, Eilene Smith; grandchildren, Cassi M. Smith, Kristen Smith and Brittany Smith. He was preceded in death by his father, William Smith and brother, Dennis Smith. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Shaw Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 7 PM Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11 AM, Thursday, April 24, 2014 at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, Vicksburg with Msgr Thomas Martin officiating. Interment at a later date will take place at Lakeview Cemetery, Torch Lake, MI. Memorial donations may go to Good Samaritan Hospice Residence and to The American Brain Tumor Association for GBM research, www.abta.org. The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home.
