Jerry Samuel Adams 72 of Kingsley, formerly of Grand Rapids died Thursday, February 27, 2014 at home.

He was born on November 29, 1941 in Traverse City the son of Samuel and Joy (Swainston) Adams.

After high school Jerry joined the Army. He served in the South during the Civil Rights movement.

He returned to Traverse City and worked as a Resident Care Aide at the Traverse City State hospital for over 19 years. After the State Hospital closed he and his wife moved to Grand Rapids where he worked for the VA Hospital. He then worked for S. Abraham's in Grand Rapids.

Jerry was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He loved birds and animals of all kinds, domestic and wild. He was an awesome gardener and enjoyed growing all kinds of vegetables, especially his 15 foot tomato plants.

Jerry will be greatly missed by his wife, Cynthia (Roddy) Adams of Grand Rapids; children, Kelley (Chris) Adams of San Antonio, TX, Shane Adams of Kingsley and Heather (Marty) Oczkus of Aurora, MO; grand children, Hannah and M.J. Oczkus; gardening buddy and sister-in-law, Katy Hedden of Kingsley, friend since childhood, John Dobson of Kingsley and longtime friend, Jerry Neuman of Florida.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Adams.

Cremation will take place. An informal gathering will be held 3pm to 6pm Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Life Story Funeral Home, Traverse City. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 129 Jefferson Ave., SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49503.
