Jeffery David Wright was a loving son, brother, father and friend. He was loyal and compassionate, strong-willed and determined. Having a solid work ethic, he was both diligent in his job and intense about sports. He worked hard and played even harder. In his thirty-one years, Jeff rose above adversity and came out strong.

Jeff was born in the 1980s when torn jeans, leg-warmers and big hair were coming into fashion. First Lady Nancy Reagan launched the “Just Say No” campaign against drug use. At the end of the decade, President George H.W. Bush’s call for a kinder, gentler nation increased volunteerism to an all-time high.

In Flint, Michigan, John and Carlene (Cobb) Wright welcomed their third child, Jeffery David, on September 25, 1982. Eventually they supported a family of four children, including Mary Christa, Melissa and Jonathan, with his work in the sheet metal industry and her work in production. They weathered the first year of Jeff’s life, when he had to be on a heart monitor. At age three, he was bit by a dog and suffered numerous facial injuries. He was never afraid of dogs even after that experience. Throughout his life, Jeff was in and out of hospital for various reasons, but his spirit of determination never let him get discouraged.

When Jeff was six, the family moved to Vicksburg, where he attended Vicksburg Community Schools: Indian Lake Elementary, Vicksburg Middle School and Vicksburg High School, class of 2001. He played rocket football as a kid and then on the Junior Varsity team, but the sport gradually “outgrew him.”

Between his junior and senior year of high school, Jeff went to Jay Robinson Wrestling Camp at the University of Minnesota. When he returned to Vicksburg, he was a changed young man. His school work improved and he was very focused. He threw himself into wrestling, becoming a state qualifier as well as serving as captain of the team for three years.

In addition to exerting muscle for sports, Jeff was into muscle vehicles. He loved riding bikes in motocross events and drag racing at Martin raceway. He was a member of the Fastlane Motorsports and dragged a lot of cars, but mostly his 1979 Camaro. Among his many “toys,” the Camaro was his passion.

In 2003, Jeff married Bonnie Wolf and was thrilled at the births of each of his two daughters: Gabriella and Arianna. The marriage ended in divorce, but Jeff never stopped being a father. When he later met Marissa Moelker, he also fell in love with her son Mitchell and took him in as his own son. Just recently, Jeff took all the kids to Florida with his mother and brothers family. They visited Disney and Universal Studios, a memory of good times from his own childhood.

In his employment, Jeff was an eager and invested chemical operator for Kalsec Incorporate in Kalamazoo. As much as he liked to work, he also enjoyed spending recreation time outdoors fishing and hunting. He was an avid fisherman, especially when it came to steelhead, but only recently did he bag his first buck at the age of thirty. Among his other interests, Jeff liked to tinker in the kitchen and listen to the music of Hank Williams III. Truth be told, it didn’t matter what he was doing, Jeff’s favorite place on earth was anywhere he was with his friends.

Jeffery D. Wright, of Vicksburg, Michigan passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the age of 31.

He will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.

Jeff is survived by his parents: John and Carlene Wright, of Vicksburg; fiancée: Marissa Moelker, of Allegan; former spouse: Bonnie Wright, of Vicksburg; three children: Gabriella and Arianna Wright, and Mitchell Moelker; three siblings: Mary Christa Wright, of Saline; Melissa (Robert) Haddix, of HI; Jonathan (fiancée: Allyson Bocchinfuso) Wright, of FL. Jeff is also survived by Paternal grandparents: Laurel and Marilyn Stockton, of Birch Run; Aunts and Uncles: Mary and Dave Bukosky, of Flint; Anita Glynn, of Battle Creek; Ben and Liz Cobb, of FL; Ron and Feipen Cobb, of Las Vegas.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 4 to 7 pm, Life Story Funeral Home, 409 S. Main, Vicksburg (269-649-1697). The funeral service will be held on Thursday, at 1 pm at the Chapman Memorial Church of the Nazarene, 5720 East U Ave, Vicksburg.
