Marvin R. Brutlag, age 84, of Herscher, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2014 at Sojourn Senior Living in Kankakee. Marvin was born on February 23, 1929 to Elmer and Matilda (Krunsieg) Brutlag in Milford, IL. He married the former Vinita Bohlmann on May 14, 1950. He worked for Herscher Grain for over 40 years before his retirement in 2006. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Herscher, Herscher Chamber, Pilot Township Trustee and former Fire Chief. He was a long time Sunday School teacher at Trinity Lutheran Church and a long time Herscher sport’s fan. He received the Citizen of the Year Award in Herscher in 2007. He enjoyed fishing and camping. He loved his family and seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 63 years, Vinita; two sons, Dennis Brutlag of West Palm Beach, FL and Gerald (Cheryl) Brutlag of Buckingham; 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, three sisters, Roselyn Wilkening of Cissna Park, Dolores (Elroy) Pfingsten of Watseka and Janice (Les) Garrelts of Crescent City and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Vernon.

A gathering time for friends and family will be held on Friday, January 10, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Herscher. Burial will immediately follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Herscher.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley, Trinity Lutheran or family’s wishes.
