Kathryn Marie Chase, 86, of Kankakee, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 1, 2014. She was born in Gibson City, IL to Rollin P. and Frances (Poplett) Blissard. She married Donald Arthur Chase in 1944. Mr. and Mrs. Chase had been married 64 years when he passed in 2008.

Surviving family includes two daughters and sons-in-law; Donna and Jack Whittaker of Winfield, IL and Bonnie and Bob Rudolf of Kankakee; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Jane Chase of Marshall, MN, and James and Deborah Chase of Festus, MO; one brother Robert Blissard of Kankakee, IL; brother-in-law Ben Bresette of Roscommon, MI; and sister-in-law Midget Wood of Lapiere, MI. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. In addition Kathryn has a large extended family and many dear friends.

Kathryn retired from Jewel in 1991 having worked there for 21 years.

Mrs. Chase was a long time member of Kankakee Women’s Club and she loved playing bridge with many family and friends over the years. She also loved her many grandchildren, crocheting, and the challenge of a good crossword puzzle. She was an avid fan of birds and had a beautiful figurine collection. Kathryn was also a devoted member of Asbury United Methodist Church for over 50 years.

Mrs. Chase was preceded in death by her parents, Rollin and Frances (Poplett) Blissard; husband Donald A. Chase in 2008; a brother Hubert Blissard; and sisters Luetta Malone and Roberta Bresette.

A gathering for family and friends will be Sunday, January 5, 2014 at the Kankakee Schreffler Life Story Funeral Home from 1-5 pm. The celebration of Kathryn’s life funeral service will be Monday at Asbury United Methodist Church in Kankakee at 10 am with a visitation from 9-10 am at the church. Interment will follow at Kankakee Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Aroma Township. Memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church or The Alzheimer’s Association.
