Joshua Andrew Hoppe, age 30, was a wonderful husband, son, brother, teacher, coach, and friend. He died suddenly on December 4, 2013, as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Josh was born on June 20, 1983, in Bad Axe, MI. He grew up in Akron, MI and attended Unionville-Sebewaing Area Schools where he graduated in 2002. Josh attended Grand Valley State University, graduating in 2007 with a B.S. in Education and was currently working towards a Masters of Education in Leadership. Josh met his wife, Mari, in 2003 while attending GVSU, and they were married on July 24, 2009.

Josh taught government and AP government at Hamilton High School and was the Hamilton Close Up Coordinator. Josh was actively involved in the athletic program for Hamilton Community Schools. He coached junior varsity football, freshman baseball, and had previously coached middle school girls’ basketball.

Josh is survived by his wife Mari; his parents Ralph and Ann Hoppe; his brother Ben; his sister Allison; his grandparents Elmo and Doris Treiber, Carl and Marilyn Hoppe, and Gerda and Marvin Phillips; mother-in-law Mary Melville; brother-in-law Rob Melville; and sister-in-law, Trina (Tom) Connelly; and many very special aunts, uncles and cousins. Josh’s life revolved around his wife, family, his role as a teacher and coach, and his strong Christian values. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him as he was a great leader, teacher, and role model for many. He was also an avid sports fan. Go Hawks! Go Lions!

The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at 1:30 PM at Christ Memorial Church 595 Graafschap Road in Holland (please use entrance C for the main sanctuary).

Reverend David Rufner will be officiating.

A private burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Hamilton.

Visitation will be held at the Christ Memorial Chapel on Monday, December 9, 2013 from 2:00–4:00 PM and 6:00-9:00 PM (same address as above, please use entrance D for the chapel).

In honor of Josh, memorial gifts may be made to the New Hope Lutheran Church of Hudsonville, Hamilton High (for the Close Up Program), or the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
