Although Lindsey Hyde-Bly’s journey came to an end far too soon, she colored the world around her with the vibrant colors of her personality each and every day. She lived life to the fullest, and her zest for life was contagious to all who were within her reach. It was no secret that Lindsey viewed her wedding day to be the best day of her life as her husband was her true companion, her soul mate, and her closest friend. She spent most of her life in the North, but she loved the warmth and the sandy beaches of the South. Described as a fashionista and a diva, Lindsey sparkled because of both her inner and outer beauty. Life will never be the same without her here, but the memories she leaves behind will never be forgotten.

The 1980s were a time unlike any other in American history as the age of technology was just on the brink of an explosion. Atari made its debut during this time as Dirty Dancing drew young people to theaters in droves, and Michael Jackson topped the charts again with “Bad.” It was during this exciting time that a young couple from Climax, Michigan, was filled with unspeakable joy as they welcomed a baby girl into their hearts and home on July 30, 1987, in Kalamazoo. Lindsey was the only child born to her parents, Rick and Deb Hyde, and she was the apple of their eye. Her father works as a network tech while her mother spent 14 years working for Climax-Scotts schools.

From the time she was a young girl Lindsey was a bustle of activity. She was into dance, figure skating, and horseback riding in addition to soccer, volleyball, and basketball. As a high school student, cheerleading was Lindsey’s passion. As a family they usually spent Christmas in Alabama or Florida where Lindsey loved visiting places like Disney World and Universal Studios. She was honored to be the first one to start a brand new corvette when she visited the factory and museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

After graduating from Climax-Scott High School in 2005, Lindsey continued her education at Grand Valley State University. She remained there throughout her four years of college, graduating in 2010 with a B.A. in health professions. In addition to holding down her studies in college, Lindsey worked at Sunnybrook Country Club, which she continued doing beyond college as well.

Not to be forgotten during Lindsey’s years at Grand Valley was her introduction to the young man who stole her heart. His name was Bob, and they met through friends. Smitten, Lindsey called to ask him out for their first date. He later transferred to another school, but his heart was just drawn back to Lindsey so he transferred back to be with his sweetheart again. Deeply in love, Lindsey and Bob were married on September 2, 2011, on the campus of Grand Valley in what has been described as the best wedding and reception of all time. The newlyweds stayed at the J.W. Marriot for their honeymoon.

There were so many things that Lindsey cherished throughout her life. She loved all things beach, especially since her uncle, Steve, had a condo right on the beach. Lindsey also treasured the time she spent in Florida with Bob and his family. She had several pets through the years including her cat, Dolce, and her dogs, Tinkerbell and Gizmo. Lindsey loved a wide variety of foods, but everything was always better dipped in a dressing or sauce in her book. She always ordered two kinds of dressing for her salad, too. As someone who enjoyed cooking herself, Lindsey liked watching Food Network. Some great memories were made at the Cheesecake Factory. Lindsey was a sports enthusiast who loved Auburn University, U of M football, Tigers baseball, and NASCAR. When it came to music, Lindsey liked a wide variety of genres including country, pop, and contemporary Christian.

Accompanied by her own personal faith, Lindsey Hyde-Bly was a gift given to those around her. She had a great sense of humor and was so giving and selfless as she was always looking for ways to help others. All who knew Lindsey would agree that she put the beauty into wherever she was, and she had a smile that could light up a room. She felt so blessed to have found her true love, and she viewed her wedding day as the greatest day of her life. Lindsey’s absence will be keenly felt, but her spirit will remain alive in the hearts and lives of all who were blessed to feel her touch.

Lindsey Hyde-Bly, of Climax, died on November 7, 2013, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Lindsey’s family includes her spouse, Bob Bly; parents, Richard and Deborah Hyde; parents-in-law, Bob and Deb Bly; brother-in-law, Mike; grandparents, Tom and Eileen Gifford; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Lindsey was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, Marie Meyers. Visit with her family and friends and view her life story film on Monday, November 11 from 4:00-8:00 and Tuesday, November 12 from 10:30-12:00 at the Life Story Funeral Home, Plainwell; 120 Woodhams St. (685-5881).
