LIFESTORY:

With unending love for her family, Yvonne Boyle was a woman who was content in all things. She was a hardworking and diligent wife and mother who also made sure her life was filled with plenty of fun along the way. Yvonne was blessed to spend 61 years alongside the love of her life with whom she created the family tree that blossomed to include numerous branches of ones she held so dear. Guided by her unwavering faith, she taught us so much about what it means to love selflessly without condition. The memories Yvonne leaves behind will be forever cherished by the generations who follow her.

The year 1929 is often recalled as the year that the stock market crashed, sending our nation spiraling down into the depths of the Great Depression. Prior to this historic day, the Roaring Twenties were predominantly a time of prosperity, but the entire decade of the thirties was a time of struggle for families from coast to coast. Jobs were scarce, which sent the unemployment rate soaring above 25 percent, leaving families to do whatever they could to make ends meet. It was just before this historic day in October of that year that a young couple from Detroit, Michigan, was delighted to announce the birth of their baby girl on September 25th. Yvonne was the third of four children born to her parents, John and Magdalen (Shannon) Engel, and was raised in the family home alongside her siblings. Her father worked locally as a physician while her mother was a busy homemaker.

For the most part Yvonne experienced an upbringing that was typical for the youth of her generation. She was a student at Birmingham Schools, graduating from high school in the mid-forties. With plans for a bright future, Yvonne went on to St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in Pontiac.

It was while in college that Yvonne met the young man with whom she would share the best years of her life. His name was Dennis Boyle, and his twin sister was the roommate of Yvonne’s. Not long after they met Yvonne and Dennis had their first date at the movies. Always the gentleman, he had her back to her dorm room by ten o’clock that night because those were the dorm rules then. After continuing to date for a time, the couple found themselves deeply in love. With a desire to establish a life together, Yvonne and Dennis were married on August 25, 1951, at St. Thomas Church in Ann Arbor.

Together the couple was thrilled to welcome 12 children into their hearts and home: Katherine, Colleen, Audrey, Patricia, Dennis, Trina, Tobias, Timothy, Kevin, Kelly, Mary, and Maureen. From the moment her first child was born being a mother seemed to be a role that was tailor made just for Yvonne. She loved her family dearly and cherished being home more than anywhere else. Her skills in the kitchen were unmatched, and all who knew her would agree that baking was her specialty. Yvonne was also blessed with a green thumb and loved gardening in addition to birdwatching.

Although being at home was always Yvonne’s main focus, she also filled her life with other things. She left the workforce while her children were growing up to focus her attention on her home, but once they were grown she entered into the healthcare field again. Yvonne resumed her career in 1975, retiring in 1991 from Bronson Methodist Hospital. Most times she cooked and baked everything at home, but she never could resist a trip or two to Dairy Queen here and there. Yvonne was a member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Vicksburg. She loved keeping busy doing puzzles, and when it came to music she enjoyed Dolly Parton, Glen Campbell, and folk and country music.

Through the life of Yvonne Boyle we are reminded that happiness is not found in what we have, but that it is through the love we share with those around us that we are richly blessed. She has been described as amazing with a contagious giggle that made her so much fun to be around. Yvonne was a devoted wife and mother whose faith, generosity, and hard work inspired all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and warmly remembered.
