Ruth Schreck, 80 of Dedham, Iowa died Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dedham. The Celebrant will be Fr. Andrew Hoffmann assisted by Deacon Louis Meiners. Music will be by Marcy Anderson and the St. Joseph’s Choir. Christian Symbols will be placed by Ruth’s granddaughters: Gwen Jowers, Alicia Tomsen, Jenny Schreck, Amanda Donovan, Abbi Schreck, Caitlin Schreck, and Nikki West. Lectors for the funeral mass will be Ruth’s grandchildren, Andy Schreck and Megan Reis. Gift Bearers will be Ruth’s granddaughters: Susie Elliot, Krissie Sanders, Karen Burns, Laura Peery, Lisa Schreck, and Ashley Schreck. Casket Bearers will be Ruth’s grandsons: Nick Sanders, Andy Schreck, Brian Schreck, B.J. Schreck, Dan Schreck, Ben Schreck, Tony Schreck, and Alex Schreck. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Dedham. The Dedham American Legion Auxiliary will form an honor guard for the funeral mass.

Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 p.m. on Sunday where there will be a rosary at 3 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left at the funeral home or the church and they will be directed to Ruth’s favorite charities.

Born on November 13, 1932 at Arcadia, Iowa, Ruth Ann was the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Hoelscher) Dentlinger. She spent her younger years in the Arcadia area and received her education at St. John’s School. On January 17, 1951 she married Andrew Herman Schreck at St. John’s Catholic Church in Arcadia. The couple spent their first year of married life in Forest Park, Georgia while Andrew was stationed at the Atlanta Depot in the armed forces. While Andrew served in Korea, Ruth lived with her parents. In 1953 Andrew and Ruth moved north of Dedham where they farmed until 1987 when they moved into Dedham.

Ruth enjoyed her Tuesday and Wednesday card groups and always enjoyed socializing with her many friends over a cup of coffee. She liked taking her trips to the casino, reading, gardening and doing needle work. Ruth had a deep devotion to her faith, her family and loved hosting family gatherings. She loved her entire family dearly and always had a sense of care and concern for others. Ruth was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Ladies Guild, and the Dedham American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her children: Carol Winans and husband Dr. David of Kansas City, KS, Mary Schreck of Liberty, MO, Joyce Ruebhausen of Bonner Springs, KS, Bill Schreck and wife Shell of Dedham, Tim Schreck of Santa Fe, NM, Cindy Schreck of Hiawatha, George Schreck and wife Kim of Adel, Joe Schreck and wife Corlyn of Kalamazoo, MI, Mike Schreck and wife Anne of Cedar Falls, and Ann Schreck of Hiawatha; her daughter-in-law, Gayle Schreck and her husband Clay Smith of Urbandale; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; her sisters: Martha Daniel of Lidderdale, Clara Friedman of Carroll, and Joan (Bob) Badding of Carroll; her brothers: Lawrence (Arlene) Dentlinger of Arcadia and Al (Izzie) Dentlinger of Westside; her in-laws: Elaine Dentlinger of Carroll, Sister Laura Schreck F.S.P.A. of LaCrosse, WI, Mary Ries of Omaha, NE, Irene Schreck of New Berlin, WI, Doris (Art) Bevandic of Milwaukee, WI, and Annie (George) Griffith of Riverside, CA; as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended relatives.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband Andrew in November of 2009; her son John Schreck in 1994; her daughter, Lisa Schreck in 1976; her son-in-law, Dennis Ruebhausen in 2010; her brother Elmer Dentlinger; and her parents-in-law, George and Minnie Schreck.
