At first glance, Eulah Blemaster was a vivacious and fun-loving woman , yet coupled with her soft, loving and giving side, she was a quite a lady. A treasure in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, she will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

The year 1929 was an especially difficult year for many as the days of the flapper and the infamous Roaring Twenties gave way to hard economic times the world over. From coast to coast, financial uncertainty cascaded into panic with the crash of the stock market. Just merely the beginning of hard times in America, the Great Depression was officially launched in a country that had seen much growth and prosperity. Mere months before these times of hardship, Cecil and Marjorie (Smith) Woodbury found much to be thankful for with the birth of their little girl, Eulah Marie, born on January 14, 1929 nestled in the small village of Perrinton, Michigan where the Woodbury's made their home.

The youngest of the Woodbury's two children, Eulah grew up alongside her sister, Donna. Sadly, at the age of two, Eulah and her family experienced the death of her father due to complications from the injuries he sustained during World War I. Sadly, young Eulah never really had the opportunity to know her father because she was so young. In 1933, Eulah's mother married a gentleman named Raymond Rumsey who took Eulah and her sister on as his own. From their union, five more children were added to their household with the addition of Ruth, Loren, Mary, Nancy, and Nelson.

Eulah was a very easygoing and fun-loving child. She loved to run, and although quiet and reserved, she easily made friends. Eulah enjoyed school, and proved to be a good student, but was mainly interested in the social aspect of her education! Throughout her teen years, she enjoyed going to the movies with friends and attending the fun, school dances. Following her high school graduation, Eulah began working for the Sealed Power Corporation in nearby St. Johns, Michigan.

There was much more in store for Eulah at work than she had anticipated. While working at Sealed Power, she caught the eye of her first husband, Jack. Soon after the birth of her son, Daniel in 1954, Eulah quit her job at the plant to become a full-time homemaker. Through a few ups and downs, Eulah's marriage to Jack ended in divorce in 1966, but she was forever grateful for the wonderful son they shared.

Love was not lost for Eulah. During her youth, she had known Wendell “Pete” Blemaster, and after many years, she met up with him once again. After dating for a short time, Eulah and Pete exchanged vows of marriage in 1983. The years for Eulah and Pete were good years, but their time together was cut short when he sadly died in 1990.

As a wife and mother, Eulah made a good home for her family. She knew her way around the kitchen, and as a wonderful cook, was always offering her family and those who came through her door something good to eat. Family was everything to Eulah. She was a loving, fantastic mother who gave from the heart. Never a strict disciplinarian, she was an affectionate mother who was very protective of her son, Daniel.

Eulah was quite active at her church, Maple Rapids United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Maple Rapids United Methodist Women, and the Rebekah Lodge #517. She found joy by helping others, and never needed or wanted any accolades or pats on the back for her caring and helpful nature. She preferred giving discreetly without drawing attention to herself through her time and talents. An excellent seamstress, she made most of the banners that hung in the sanctuary at church.

Among several of her interests, Eulah had a great love of horses. She also loved the sounds of the big bands that took her back in time. Never one to use foul language, instead of swearing, she'd often say, "Oh bullroar!" Eulah had a great sense of humor, even if it was at her own expense. Her endearing, almost childlike demeanor made her all the more lovable, but she could also be quite gullible at times, too.

For the last 15 years, Eulah enjoyed the companionship of her fiancé, Lyle. Always enjoying one another's company, they never thought they needed to get married. Lyle and Eulah spent their golden years together taking in the things they enjoyed. They especially enjoyed going to the Cherry Festival in Traverse City each year and simply just loved being together. With Lyle by her side, Eulah lived the last years of her life fully and completely. She was always very active and enjoyed relatively good health until 2011. At the age of 84, Eulah Marie Blemaster passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2013 in the presence of those she loved and cared about.

Eulah is survived by her fiancé, Lyle Helms; son, Daniel (Jill) Falor; grandson, Luke (Alicia) Falor; stepchildren, Brenda Bancroft, Wenda (Tim) Herbert, Richard (Linda) Blemaster, Brad (Pam) Blemaster, Bonnie Baese, Brent (Phyllis) Blemaster; 21 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; her siblings, Donna (Max) Loudenbeck, Loren (Ruth) Rumsey, Mary (Don) Andrews, Nancy (Richard) Andrews, Nelson Rumsey; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Ruth Wesner, and granddaughter, Kimberly Galey.

Funeral Services for Eulah will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the Maple Rapids United Methodist Church with Pastor Kathy Leydorf-Keck officiating. Burial will follow at Union Home Cemetery. Eulah's family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Wednesday at Maple Rapids United Methodist Church.
