Marge Hough was a warm and kindhearted woman, always willing to lend a hand to a friend in need. Marge’s life revolved around her family, and she devoted her life to caring for her loved ones. Marge’s robust sense of humor, tender heart, and warm smile will live on in the hearts and memories of all those whose lives she touched.

Marjorie was born on March 6, 1919, to proud parents George and Pearl (Brower) Harmon. Marge, as she soon came to be called, was the baby of the family, the youngest of five children. The Harmon family lived in Jackson, Michigan, where Marge attended school.

The years sped by, and almost before she knew it Marge had grown into a beautiful young lady. One fateful day, Marge met a bread deliverer named Garrett Hough while visiting relatives in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Marge and Garrett hit it off right away, and their friendship soon deepened into love. The happy couple was married on June 27, 1936, in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Marge and Garrett settled into married life, and before long their little family began to grow. As the years went by, they were blessed with five children, whom they named Sharon, Larry, David, Ronald, and James. Marge was a wonderful cook, and the whole family looked forward her homemade meals. Sundays and Mondays were especially popular, when Marge would make roast beef and beef stew. Marge also canned, and sewed many clothing articles and household items herself.

In her free time, Marge enjoyed going to garage sales, where she sometimes found items to add to her two collections (strawberry-themed items and bells). She was also an enthusiastic bowler, and could often be spotted on the lanes. In fact, Marge even worked at Plainwell Lanes for a time. At home, Marge enjoyed relaxing with some country music or in front of a Tigers game. She was a huge Tigers fan, and treasured a Curtis Granderson autographed ball given to her by her granddaughter.

In 1984, Marge became a resident of Barga Manor. More recently, she began to experience some health problems, and moved to Alamo Nursing Home.

Funny, loving, and tenderhearted, Marge was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and a loyal friend. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her many friends and family members.

Mrs. Marjorie V. “Marge” Hough died on January 6, 2013, at the age of 93. Marge’s family includes her children: Sharon (Gene Sprinkle) Stull of Plainwell, Larry Hough of New Jersey, David (Brenda) Hough of Kalamazoo, and Ronald (Bonnie) Hough of Kalamazoo; grandchildren: Sheila Muniz, Ronnie, Todd, William, James, Gary and Andrew Hough, Jackie Stuut, Courtney Essar, Karen Wildsmith and Amber Terrell; and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garrett; her son, James; grandson, Michael Hough; granddaughter, Laura Hough; grand son in-law, Eddie Muniz; her brothers, Floyd and Earl; her sister, Thelma Horsley; and her daughters-in-law, Lee Hough and Lana Hough.

A Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Life Story Funeral Home, 120 S. Woodhams, Plainwell (269-685-5881). The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Charity of Choice. Please visit Marge’s personal memory page at www.lifestorynet.com, where you can learn more about her life, share a favorite memory or photo, and sign the online guestbook.
