Just as loving as she was feisty and straight forward, Linda Coulter was a strong-hearted woman who above all dearly loved her family. She wasn't afraid to get her hands dirty, and did what was needed to get a job done. Independent by nature, her thoughtful and caring ways touched many throughout her life. Although she will be sadly missed, she lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Born to a young 17 year old, Maggie Swanson in the small coal mining town of Pineville, Kentucky along the Cumberland River and Pine Mountain, Linda was raised by her Granny, Otta Bailey. She was the "leader of the pack", and the oldest of 11 children in all.

Linda was feisty right from the start. She had a "country boy" mentality, and was all tomboy. She attended the locals schools, and in fact one of her classmates happened to be none other than the "bionic man", actor Lee Majors. She once even shared an orange soda with him. Linda excelled in her studies and was an all A student before leaving school in the 11th grade.

Blessed with two daughters, Angie was born in 1969 and in 1973 Gabriella came along. As a single mother raising two girls, Linda ventured from the nestled community of Pineville and moved to the city of Chicago, Illinois for a time. She kept heading west, and eventually took up residence in California for a short while before returning to the Chicago area. Back in Chicago, Linda made a home for herself and her girls. She worked hard as a private nurse, and cared for a variety of patients during this time.

Linda worked hard making a good home and life for her daughters. From coast to coast, they spent many vacations camping, and over the years camped in nearly every state park. Quite the adventurer, it was important to Linda to expose her girls to everything, and they traveled and explored each and every state in the U.S. She was strict, but was loving just the same. Being straight forward and stern was simply who Linda was. On the other hand, her good will and thoughtfulness towards others was a gift she continually gave.

When her children were older, Linda settled into the southwestern Michigan village of Lawton. There she found the opportunity to purchase a home of her very own in 1998 which meant so much to her. She worked at Lakeview Continuing Care as a Certified Nurse Assistant, and was a well liked and well loved caregiver to many.

Linda spent much of her free time reading. She loved the Twilight series. She read all of the books and loved the movie, too. She also was old fashioned when it came to her meals. She loved southern cooking, but never enjoyed making it as much as she did eating it. Her favorite included chicken and cornbread. Linda took pleasure in food and loved to eat which made her a "healthy" and lovable woman. When it came to pets, she preferred dogs of the smaller breeds. She currently had three she called her own, and loved tending to them and enjoyed their companionship.

Linda always bought scratch off tickets, and like everyone who plays the lottery, hoped for a big win some day. She also liked shopping and going to garage sales. There were few she could pass by, and at one point could have been likened to that of a hoarder. She did enjoy collecting salt and pepper shakers, and her love of shoes was evident in her over 300 pair collection! Linda had a love for the oldies, too. She liked a variety of music, from Rod Stewart to country's, Loretta Lynn. And wherever she went, Linda loved driving around in her PT Cruiser.

Grandchildren were a special part of Linda's life. She so enjoyed spending time with them, particularly Tate, and loved helping him with his homework. They too loved time with her as she always made being with her an exciting adventure.

Being a lifetime smoker, the effects of smoking caught up with Linda. She suffered from congestive obstructive pulmonary disease, congestive heart failure, and diabetes. After some time, she lost her battle to these diseases, and sadly passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2012. Strong of heart, Linda Coulter was a loving, generous woman who will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

The family will celebrate her life with a service at 11 am on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at the Life Story Funeral Home, Betzler & Thompson, 60900 M-40 Paw Paw (657-3870).

Linda is survived by her daughters: Angie Grider and Gabriella Grider (Daniel Bridges); grandchildren: Jeffrey (Kalianna) Reynolds, William “Vinny” (Megan) Reynolds, Steven (Brittany) Hall, Elizabeth Reynolds, Tate Bridges, and Colley Hankins; great-grand-children: Alexae, Christian, Ethan, Delanie, Shyan, and Aaliyah; her siblings: Judy (Abel) Moreno, William “Billy” (Brenda) Bunch, Jeanette Neville, Joyce Stonemark, Etta Bunch, Martha Bunch, Kenneth (Kimberly) Bunch, and Christopher Bunch. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Danny Bunch and Adam Bunch; and by her Granny, Otta Bailey.
