LIFESTORY:

Peter Koopmans, 87, of Kankakee IL. passed away at his home August 9, 2012. He was born in Wichert, IL. to Simon and Katie (Zeldenrust) Koopmans July 19, 1925. Peter married Delores Hagen June 17, 1960 in Kankakee,IL. at the First Presbetyrian Church. Mr. Koopmans was a foreman for Armstrong for 30 years where he retired in 1987. He also farmed most of his life. Peter proudly served our country in the United States Navy. Mr. Koopmans has been a dedicated member of Faith Reformed Church in Kankakee, IL. since 1970. Over the years he served as a past Sunday School teacher, past president of the church softball league, Elder of the church, Camp Monitoqua board member, Reformed Church of America, and mission committees that served all over the world.

Peter is survived by his wife Delores of Kankakee, IL. two sons; Brian (Cynthia) of Sorrento,FL., Bill (Sherri) of Union, KY., one daughter Lori (Harvey) Hoekstra of Kankakee,IL., grandchildren; Zachary, Peter, Sam, Tyler, Travis, Allison, Kaitlyn, and Kurtis. He is also survived by four brothers Simon (Delores) Koopmans of South Holland, IL., John (Velma) Koopmans of Belgrade, MT., Melvin Koopmans of Plymouth, IN., Tom (Eleanor) Koopmans of LaHarpe, IL., four sisters; Martha Boomsma of Waupun, WI. Katherine Runia of Bourbonnais, IL., Helen (Ed) DeVries of Momence, IL., Janice (Richard) Alvey of Fort Wayne, IN. along with several nieces and nephews. Peter was preceded in death by his first wife Muriel, one brother Clarence, and one foster son Billy Simpson.

A gathering for family and friends will be Saturday August 11, 2012 from 10 a.m. until a celebaration of Peter’s life funeral service at 12:30 p.m. all at Faith Reformed Church in Kankakee, IL . The Rev. Paul Akers will officiate. Burial will follow at Kankakee Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Aroma Twp.
