I send my sincere sympathies to Bill, Ross, Fred and all of the family members at the loss of this great lady. May God provide you comfort and peace in your memories as you go forward and deal with this difficult time. May God rest her soul.

Elsie was an enduring friend. We always admired her enthusiasm, and in particular her stands for causes in which she believed.

Elsie was a great lady and one who never beat about the bush when she had an opinion. I always admired that about her, nothing wishy-washy about Elsie.

I recall a lunch with Elsie and Joanne Brooks on my deck overlooking Lake Michigan. They had been comforting me in my bereavement. I recall Elsie saying "I'm not afraid of dying--it will be another adventure".
Elsie was my inspiration as a peace activist. Her trip to Japan with the thousand cranes, her willingness to go to jail for her convictions, her work with the Peacemakers--what a woman!
She was the most tenderly loving person I knew, who always brightened the day of the person she hugged. In her final years, she bore her decline with the same cheerful loving kindness she has exhibited as long as I've known her. We will miss her.

I 'knew' Elsie as the co-founder, with JoAnne Brooks, of Holland Peacekeepers. When I moved to Holland, this was the most active peace-and-justice group, one of whose 'marks' is the 16-language Peace Pole in Smallenberg Park. Elsie was strongly supportive of the message "May Peace Prevail on Earth," written in the 16 home-languages of children then in the Holland Public Schools. Today there are numerous peace-groups in the area, but Elsie and her friend JoAnne..were the beginning! My thoughts and appreciation to her family.

Our dear Miss Elsie...what a lion of a lamb. I spent many hours the last few years driving down to Coldwater with her to visit a resident she had worked with at the Dunes Correctional Facility. I heard all the stories of Traverse City, meeting Bill, and then the children and grand children stories. She talked about good times at the JJ Resort with the whole family.. She loved her cottage over the river, educating and laughing, and working for peace. Elsie continues to inspire. May all our lives be as full as Elsie's life.
