I was out at the farm and Brenda was making gizzard's in cream of mushroom gravy, Carroll asked me " are you staying for dinner?" I said "Oh no that gizzards sound nasty, and I've never had them." I can't remember exactly what he said to me, but it was something like, "how do you know, if you haven't tried them and slapped one on a plate and said her taste it." Just let me tell you, OMG this stuff was good, so now I eat gizzards in gravy (ONLY WHEN BRENDA COOKS THEM). I love carroll like he was my own father. I am going to really miss him!! He would always make me smile. I am so glad I ran into him on the friday before he passed.

As a former combine demo operator at the Kankakee County Fair, I got to know Carroll, Brian and Brent very well. They treated me like I was a member of their family. It was a true honor to have known Carroll. In my travels, I would pass by him on random construction sites and would wave at him even if he didnt know who the heck I was. This comes as a tremendous shock to me personally. To Carrolls entire family, I express my deepest sadness and sympathies and pray that the peace of our risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be in your hearts during this tremendously difficult time.
With a heavy heart,

Our deepest condolances for this loss. I remember many goat shows where Caroll was always helping out and just making sure everthing was going as smoothly as possible. I especially remember a time when I got into a dicussion with a very abusive fair goer who thought "it was just a goat" and was treating one of our does roughly---needless to say we had a chat that was starting to become heated---I looked to see if any help was around and there was Caroll watching quietly, but well aware of the situation---will always remember the little smile he gave me when things returned to normal. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you(the famiy) in your time of loss--Jeff

I want you all to know how much I enjoyed Carroll. He was my patient for physical therapy for both his shoulder and hip surgeries and we all got to know a man who was very caring and who enjoyed life. He would like to talk about his family and it was truly evident how proud he was of all of you. We were all shocked to hear of his passing as he had attended therapy that morning, he will be very missed. I do feel blessed having to got the chance to know Carroll and his joy for life.

Aunt Pam, Brian, Brent, Brenda, and family:
I would like to express my deepest and most heartfelt condolences for the lost of this most remarkable, sincere, genuine, loving and heartwarming man. I used to love spending my summers with you all and with him whether it was hanging out with the kids or getting ready for the State Fair. I will never forget our most recent one on one time together in Hawaii at my brother Jim's wedding. We had a wonderful time together and I realized how much I miss my family back home and all the wonderful times together, like on holidays or the BBQ's by the pond. I miss you all and will never forget this wonderful man!
Love Always, Jennifer, Cody, and Colton

He and his family are so welcoming as well as helpful. He was our favorite at the cafe, and will be deeply missed.

From the day I met Carroll about 24 years ago, he was always the first to jump in and help. Carroll always had a great smile and weather you were 1 or 100 Carroll too time to speak to you. He has left a big hole in the community in which he lived, in the organizations he was a part of, but most of all his loss will be felt most by his family.

Dear Pam and family~
My sincere deepest sympathy to you all. I just ran into Carroll at casey's in Herscher. We talked for a good 15-20 minutes about Tobey's, Jim, and just the old family farm in general. I still see the intense color of his eyes and that smile with those rosey cheeks. The Basham family has forever been a part of our family, going to Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Pauls, to driving over to see your parents. I can picture you Dad Ollie walking out with this huge smile (and his cane) Your Mom beaming. Each of you boys have the same family traight. A smile, a hug a handshake for all. I don't have the best memory, but i remember enough to know the love your family has always shared. God Bless each of you, God has welcomed Home another generous man. He will forever be blessed!
My sympathies~ Sue

Carroll was a fantastic man, he was always there to help no matter what the job. He was the ultimate "peacemaker". I shared a lot of time with Carroll with 4-H, my children, and the Kankakee County Fair. He will always have a special place in my heart.

Brenda,
The last time I saw your Dad was just after my Dad passed, he hugged me and told me everything was gonna be alright. I can't tell you how much my heart hurts for you all. When a daughter loses her Dad it's tremendously heart breaking, we lose our idol, our hero, and our greatest protector. Your Dad was a a truely good-hearted, genuine man but you already know this. Please know you are all in my prayers and I love you all Brenda, Pam, Brent, Brian, and Jason!
