LIFESTORY:

Louise Mae Brackett was born on March 14, 1915 to Walter and Nora Dresslar in Southport, Indiana. She died at age 97 on May 2, 2012 in Holland, Michigan. She graduated from Southport High School and prepared to be a teacher at Indiana Central College and at Ball State College.

Louise was married to John Holt Brackett in Washington Cathedral’s Bethlehem Chapel on August 5, 1945. They lived in Greenwood, Indiana for forty six years until John’s death in 1991.

Louise taught first grade at University Heights, Glenns Valley, Southport and Greenwood elementary schools and kindergarten at Southport Presbyterian Church. She was an active member of Southport and then of Greenwood United Methodist churches. She was a member of PEO. In Holland, Michigan, she lived at The Warm Friend for many years and was an associate member of Third Reformed Church.

Louise is also preceded in death by a sister, Clarice Copeland. She is survived by a brother, Wayne Dresslar; a daughter and son in law, Jane and Donald Cronkite; grandchildren, Ethan and Amy Cronkite, Joel Cronkite, Emily and Michael Coronado; great grandchildren, Ramona and Henry Cronkite; nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Greenwood, Indiana on May 12 at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends are welcome.
