The life of Larry Cieslinski will be most remembered for his devotion to family, his supportive nature, and humorous ways. He enjoyed much throughout his life, and times shared in the company of those he loved and cared for made them all the more memorable. A hands-on type of man, his strength of character was evident through his generosity. Sadly missed, he will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

The year 1947 found times to be quickly changing in the U.S. as the nation experienced post World War II prosperity. Industry and manufacturing was at an all time high, and as young soldiers returned home to their sweethearts, they soon married and began having families of their own. With the baby boom well on its way, families were taking to the suburbs in massive numbers, yet the influx created a housing shortage never before seen. Life was certainly moving forward, especially for Henry and Emilie (Dudek) Cieslinski, of Rochester, New York when on February 15, 1947 they welcomed the birth of their son, Lawrence.

Known as one of the first "boomtowns" in America, Larry grew up in Rochester along the Genesee River with his brother, Jim, and sister, Kathleen. He experienced an enjoyable childhood for the times, and shared numerous adventures with neighborhood friends. As a family they enjoyed much, and together took a liking to bowling, and did so often. During his youth, fond memories were made fishing together as a family which Larry held forever in his heart.

Larry attended the local schools and before graduating from Edison Tech High School he actively participated in bowling and was on the wrestling team, and was quite good at it, too. Shortly after graduating, Larry married the young woman who came to steal his heart. Deeply in love with Sandy Mayer, the two exchanged vows of marriage on June 28, 1969 before a congregation of family and friends. They loved the sounds of the Righteous Brothers, and prominently played their songs at their wedding reception. With the Vietnam War raging overseas, Larry was soon drafted into the military. He served stateside with the U.S. Army, and in 1972 returned home to Sandy's awaiting arms.

After his return, Larry and Sandy began a family of their own. Nothing brought him greater joy than becoming a father to their four children, Larry, Michelle, Jennifer and Christopher. He provided well for his growing family while working at Woerner Industries as a machinist and supervisor, remaining there for over 25 years. In recent years he worked part-time. Whether it was through school, the service, work, or within his community, Larry was well liked. His humor brought loads of laughs, and he was even quote as saying, "Don't call me sir, I work for a living."

Over the years wonderful memories were made as a family. Larry especially loved the Christmas Eve holiday and always made it special for Sandy and the kids. Since childhood, there was something magical on Christmas Eve which remained in Larry's heart. Together he and Sandy enjoyed vacationing at Lake George and Niagara Falls, Canada where good times were shared. It was difficult for Larry when his parents both passed away, and when his brother, Jim died in 2010, it proved to be no less a trying time for him as well. Through the love of family, he carried on and relied on his strong character to see him through.

Larry had many interests that kept him busy. He continued his love for fishing and bowling, and went hunting several times with friends. His artistic side shown bright through his knack for photography and drawing, yet his hands-on abilities were evident in his carpentry work at home. He skillfully made their kitchen and bathroom cabinetry with the precision and beauty of a true craftsman. When it came to sports, he was a Patriots fan well before they made a name for themselves. In his younger years he played the drums, and continued to enjoy music, especially on his favorite radio channel, the Legends. There were a few television programs he looked forward to watching, like NCIS, and enjoyed anything to do with SciFi. Most of all, Larry loved just sitting around and hanging out with his family watching TV, which always brought him the most contentment.

Sadly, at the age of 65, Lawrence "Larry" Cieslinski died on Thursday, March 29, 2012. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Sandy; children: Larry (Barb) Cieslinski, Michelle (Shawn Albano) Cieslinski, Jennifer (Vincent) Petisi, and Christopher (Rachel Hirsch) Cieslinski; his grandchildren: Jodi, Danny, Kristin, Justin, Jessica, Lexi, and Will; sister, Kathy Wisterman; mother-in-law, Mary Mayer; sisters-in-law: Jayne Cieslinski, and Charlene (Frank) Surace; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may meet with Larry's family from 4-7 PM Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the Bartolomeo and Perotto Funeral Home-Rochester location, 1411 Vintage Lane, Rochester, NY 14626; 585-720-6000 where his funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM.
