Life Story / Obituary
STURRUS - Mrs. Hendrika A. "Mary" Sturrus, aged 82, of Grand Rapids, passed
away Sunday August 14, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband
Peter Sturrus. Surviving are her children: Edward (Joyce) Sturrus, Robert
(Rachel) Sturrus, Richard (Marlys) Sturrus and Judy (Robert) Vander Zwaag;
her grandchildren: David (Laura) Sturrus, Michael Sturrus, Jordan Vander
Zwaag, Austin Vander Zwaag, Sienna Vander Zwaag and Anthony Sturrus; her
sister Alie (Jaap) Stam of the Netherlands, her brothers-in-law and
sisters-in-law: Gerrit and Tina Sturrus, Anthony Sturrus, Eva and Fritz
Kloppert, Darlene Sturrus, Aletta Houweling and several nieces, nephews and
cousins. Mary was born in Dordrecht, the Netherlands and came to the
United States in 1951 with her husband Peter. They established a home on
the west side across from Richmond Park where she lived for 55 years and
where they raised their family. She was active in her church, loved to
travel to places in the U.S. and to destinations in South America and
Europe. She was a homemaker who loved her home and was an avid gardener.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 A.M. at 7th Reformed Church,
950 West Leonard St. Interment will be in Washington Park Memorial
Gardens. Mrs. Sturrus reposes at the Heritage Life Story Funeral Home,
Van't Hof Chapel, 851 Leonard St. N.W. where relatives and friends may meet
her family Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. For those who wish, in lieu
of flowers, memorial contributions to the Christian Rest Home would be
