Passed away Wednesday,August 10, 2011. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 11, 1912 and was a lifelong resident of the Detroit area most recently residing at Wynwood of Portage. Ray started his career at the Chrysler Tank Arsenal during WWII and later was a Machinist at Speedring, involved in the fabricating of complicated tooling of Beryllium for the space program. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Financial Secretary of the Catholic Order of Foresters (Court 1522) for many years. An avid sportsman, he loved fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling, and trying his luck at poker, and horse racing. Football, Tiger Baseball, and boxing were his favorite past times. Ray was voted Sportsman of the Year at Speedring, his last place of employment before retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes and Oscar; his loving wife, Antoinette and second wife, Theodora; son, Grant; brother, Harold; step-brother, Danny and step-sister, Gladys. Survivors include son, Raymond Jr. (Carol), daughter, Diana (Dennis) Guritza and stepdaughter Sally (Arnold) Hock. The grandfather of special buddy, Christopher and other loving grandchildren, Stephanie, Kimberly, Jeffrey, Jack, Jill, Bob, and John. The great grandfather of 14, and many nieces, and nephews. Mass at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church, 1150 W. Centre Ave, Portage, will be held Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will be served following the service. Memorial Contributions may be directed to Hospice of S.W. Michigan.
