With her beautiful smile, Aunt Lee would always welcome us to her home in Kalamazoo. The first summer Dale and I were newlyweds, she had us over for a backyard barbecue. The star of the meal was a 10-layer jello mold that was amazing. She said she had started it the day before. I took the recipe and many many more from her, as she was a good cook.

As kids we always looked foward to the summer trips to Michagan. Aunt Lee always went out of her way to show us a good time.

I met Lee in 1977 when I was a senior in high school and worked with her at Culligan. She was a very sweet person with a kind heart. She always listened patiently to customers, drivers and me. She was extremely proud of her children and talked about them frequently. I feel blessed to have known her.

Lee lived with us for about twenty years up to her passing. Since I had lost my parents at an early age, she "adopted" me and became my surrogate mother. I loved her very much and when she died, I felt a loss that I will not soon forget. I will always remember the ethnic dishes she cooked and her presence in our home.

I have many wonderful memories of my grandma Haiduk, or G-ma as i liked to call her. :)
My greatest memories were the holidays at the Haiduk household. My cousins and I loved to play at grandma's house and there were so many areas to explore. The house always smelled sooo good.
My grandma used to let us drink coffee (most of it was milk and sugar) and i just loved that. She also made a GREAT Kolach in which the tradition is now being taken over by Aunt Marilee.
And, oh the recees peanut butter cups at Halloween...she always used to sneak me extra candy when my dad wasn't looking.
Lastly, one night when i was very young, i layed in bed with grandma and she told me the story of Frank, my grandfather. He died when i was young and i didn't have a lot of memories of him. She also told me stories about my dad when he was young. I treasure those to this day.

When I first met Lee I was not accepting new clients. I told my boss that I would go out for an interview. But, In my heart I knew I did not want another client... Then I met her she said "Hi MY NAME IS LEE.AND I'M POLISH" And at that moment I knew I had a very special client... We became great friends.I'm so very lucky to have had her in my life.. She will live forever in my Heart.... That you Marilee for the gift of caring for the best Polish lady I will ever know... Love, Rosie

I am so grateful for my family and friends who showed their love and respect for my Mom in so many ways during this past week. You are all wonderful and were very special in her life. We enjoyed being back in Michigan with all of you, and so glad you all got the chance to see all the grandchildren and some of the great grandchildren. It is quite a special family, I personally think Lee and Frank did a great job. We only hope we can carry on their traditions and high standards for living life well. Dan and I miss her terribly and will need some time to get used to the emptiness in our home. Thank you and we love you, Marilee
