Gloria L. Bender

Gloria L. Bender, 81, of Battle Creek passed away Sunday September 5, 2010 at Evergreen Senior Care and Rehab Center with her family at her side. She was born August 12, 1929 in Marshall to William D. and Erma L. (Bachman) Gillum. She spent her life with her parents and brother in Battle Creek later living with her sister. Gloria worked as a child care provider for many years. She enjoyed playing cards, going to bingo, and spending time with all the family. Aunt "Gortie" will be deeply missed by all her nieces and nephews (great and great-great) for all the care she gave to them as they all grew up. Gloria is survived by two sisters, Ruth Wilhelms, of Battle Creek and Sharon Tooker, of Houghton Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Jean Youmans; and brothers, Dale, William, Wendell, Richard, and Michael. Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday September 9, 2010 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be given to American Lung Association of Michigan.
