Matthew Westrate, age 84, of Zeeland went to be with his Lord on Sunday, August 29, 2010.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth in 2007 and a granddaughter, Sarah Westrate in 1980. He was a member of Drenthe Christian Reformed Church.
Matt was a carpenter and farmer.
He is survived by his children: Del and Diane Westrate of Zeeland, Arlyn Westrate of Holland, Nancy and Elmer Sjaarda of West Olive, Ronald and Rhonda Westrate of Zeeland, Randy and Marcia Westrate of Zeeland; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Henrietta and Julius Heck of Hamilton; sister-in-law, Arlene Wassink of Holland.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, September 2, 2010, at Drenthe Christian Reformed Church with the Reverend James Busscher officiating. Visitation will be 7-9 pm Wednesday at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 South State St, Zeeland. Burial will be in West Drenthe Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Heritage Health Care and Rehabilitation.
