I am one of those lucky people who was born into a into a "well-to-do" family, not of material wealth, but a family who demonstrated their love and respect for each other. When I married Scott's sister, I again struck the "mother-lode" as Mom & Pa McLaughlin, the brothers, aunts, uncles and cousins showed me the ultimate affection by accepting me as one of their own, this was especially true of Scott.
While Scott could sometimes be abrupt and impatient, he was always there when family and friends needed him. He willingly looked after several of his aging aunts and his mother by regularly checking up on them (often daily), bringing in their mail, providing meals, shopping and chauffeuring them to appointments as well as making sure they were included in family or social events. And when their lives ended, he was the one who saw to their final arrangements and handled their estates. Scott never took...he always gave. What an inspiration he was for us all.

Dear Ann: My deepest sympathy to you and your family during these very trying and heartbreaking days. I reflect back many years ago when a short trip on Sundays to the sand docks for some swimming & socializing made for a very happy day for several families. Scott was such a pleasant guy and always welcomed a good laugh. Thoughts and prayers for peace for all of you. Sharon

Ann and Family-
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all as your going through this difficult time. Sorry we were not able to attend the funeral but we were gone on vacation over that week. We were shocked when we read the chroncile.
He was a loving husband, father. He always had a smile on his face and full of laughter and fun. We go back to the years when the kids where young and I babysat for you. Your kids probably do not even remember me??? Swimming in the pool, and I went on a summer vacation with you and stayed with the kids while you played tennis and relaxed up north. What fun we had. Just remember that God is with you and will give you all the strength you need to get through each day. We are praying for you all.

Dear McLaughlin Family,
Unfortunately I didn't know Scott well, but from growing up around his children I know he must have been a great father. Even at young ages all of his kids were both wise and kind beyond their years and exhibited all the characteristics of great people. Scott will forever live through them and in their hearts.
Best Wishes,
Andy

My condolences to Ann and the family. Scott was one of my best friends in high school. We had great fun during those years just loafing around North Muskegon. We double-dated a lot, had fun with cars, played in the band, took almost all the same classes, and, many times escaped trouble only by good luck. Scott had a pleasant, easy-going nature and got along well with everyone.

Scott and I did not meet until a few years ago, but bonded pretty quickly over myriad political and historical discussions. He would send me great articles from underground sources that even the most tech savy of my friends wouldn't come across online. Scott had a keen sense of seeing through the BS and breaking it down to a level where motives were obvious. This kind of intellect is often lacking and it is something I truly admire. I also loved his straight honesty. After attending a summer party at the McLaughlins I must have left 5 or 6 "fancy" beers in the garage fridge. Upon returning months later for a dinner with Scott and Ann he handed me one of those beers. I said, "Did you go out and buy these?" to which he responded "Hell no, these are still sitting out there from last time you were here. Nobody wants to drink them." Classic. Scott will be missed. Jenn and I have you all in our thoughts.

I met Scott in Petoskey where Frankie Carrozza and Scott were at their best in creating a great meal. When Frank referred to me as Durango Bill, Scott mentioned his brother Joe was moving to Durango. Before I knew it, Scott had called Joe and gave me the phone saying here, this is my brother Joe. Since then, we have become good friends with Deb and Joe and even had a couple of libations when Scott came to visit Colorado. Thanks Scott for being such a warm and friendly guy and even though our time and memories are short, they were eventful. May God be with you and your family and may you have as much fun in heaven as you had on this earth. God Bless. Bill and Chris

Corey and I are heartbroken. I will always remember Scott at the BBQ smiling and grilling all of us kids the infamous Cheddarwurst's. Scott always made time to talk to everyone and give a great big hug. He made everyone feel special. We will miss him more than words. Our thoughts are with Ann, Mary, Ann, and John, as well as all the other family.
