Every time I found myself back in jail it was embarassing for Chaplain Dexter to see me. He probably thought nothing of it because he was used to seeing people over and over again, but I was ashamed. I can remember going down to his office and him giving me stuff-shampoo, lotion, toothpaste, candy :) Stuff that meant to world to someone in jail. He was always so busy, when he would walk down the catwalk tons of people would try to get his attention and he would try his best to talk them all, though that was nearly impossible. I wish I would have come to his funeral to pay my respects ,but unfortunatley I have to be at work. But he would be so happy to know that I even have a job and have been sober for two years. I will miss you and it makes me sad to know that you won't be around :(

I met Chaplain Dexter at the Muskegon County Jail oh so many years ago. I have been there more times than I can count and every time he was always there with a smile. He always wanted to help me and believed there was something more for me in life. He was a good man and I am sorry that I never got to hear his story. He always told me he would tell me one day...my prayers are with his family and friends :)

I will never forget Mr Anthony. He came into the Dr's office one time and commented on my pinky ring. It is sterling silver with a heart dangling from it. I had told him how I had lost it for a couple of months, and had later found it in a Walmart shopping bag. He said that I need to wear it on a chain around my neck and keep it close to my heart. I will never forget that as long as I live. He always had a kind word and smile for each and every one of us there. A very kind hearted man and will be greatly missed. We were sure blessed to have had him as our patient. He is now with God
and all of his angels looking down upon us all. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family in this time of sorrow. He
will never be forgotten. Rest in peace Mr.Anthony.

Farris-God be with you and your family. We admired
both you and Dexter for your committment to the Lord and the path he directed you to-Forgotten Man
Minstries. We share great memories of you both and
how GOD can change our lives to be of service to Him.
He was so sincere in his preaching of the Word and
wanting others to come to know Christ. God Bless
and may he continue to direct our paths.

You know life is very interesting.
Dexter was born the same year I was.
We grew up in the same neighborhood,
went to the same schools and had some
of the same friends. We use to love to
shoot pool down at the pool hall inside
the cab stand. Dexter and I would bet
and I would mostly win. Dexter started
calling me "Shultz" because the owners
name was Shultz and I was down there
so often. There was a group of us who
seemed to always "run around" together
back then. We had so; so much fun
growing up it was almost unreal.
None of us wanted it to end.
But life happens, right!
After high school I joined the Air Force
and never really came back home to live.
Through the years I would think about
all the guys in the old neighborhood, but
I never really got back there too much.
Recently, however my baby sister got
married and Dexter officiated the
ceremony. Afterwards, Dexter and I had
an opportunity to talk and catch up on
years of "stuff". We absolutely enjoyed it!
We caught up on decades of old times.
We had a ball just laughing and talking and
enjoying each others company.
He told about how happy he was doing
his life work. How he really looked forward
to doing more travelling and going places.
Since I am an attorney special ling in
Estate Planning and Asset Protection,
Dexter asked several probing questions
about his own personal situation. I was
eager to answer because I wanted to help
give him all I could while we were
there together--I am glad we had that last
conversation after decades of not seeing
or talking to one another.
Life is very interesting.

Cousin Dexter I will miss you in many ways. You always had something positive to say to me when things looked grim to me. I will never forget when I was struggling as a newlywed and I came to you and Ferris both to get advise and support. What I got was your wonderful story of your life together and how things may get tough but we would make it through like you two did. I love you both with all my heart.

When I first came to Bethesda Dexter had been 4 months into Ministry. He and I served together for three years at Bethesda.
I will never forget the endless conversations we have had about serving as associates, sharpening one another's iron and spuring one another on to love and good deeds. Dex always looked out for the inmates and went the extra mile when I needed to see someone.
I will miss you brotha!

Dexter, you will have a full choir of friends and family to meet you in heaven. When I think of you all I can do is smile as I remember the lasting impression on the members and staff on 2 South at the Veterans' Home. And you kept me from eating that second helping of carrot cake at the potlucks. You brought out the best in everyone and could do what no one else would. You touched us all and for that I am grateful.
To Farris, remember the hogshead cheese Truly made? They won't let me put the pig heads in the freezer anymore at the Vet's Home. Go figure.....My Dad passed away almost 4 years ago and he often would ask if I knew anyone who could make it like that. Times change. I will miss Dexter, but know that he has many friends and loved ones to comfort you. God Bless.
