Martin (Bill) Hacklander, 81, died Thursday, March 17, 2005 after a long illness in Shelton, Washington.

Bill was born in Saugatuck May 19, 1923 to John and Esther Hacklander. He graduated from Saugatuck High School, and attended tool and die makers school in Chicago, until the outbreak of World War II. He was a veteran of the Normandy Invasion, and numerous battles in the European Theatre. After the war he returned to the Saugatuck area.

Bill was an aircraft machinist, working for Convair and Boeing among others. He also owned his own machine shop for a time in Lakeside, California. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, 40 et 8, Eagles, and Masons.

He is survived by his wife Colleen Hacklander of Shelton Washington; sisters, Jeanne and Gerry Bekken of Douglas, Helen Krueger of Saugatuck, Joyce and Harvey Busscher of Ganges; daughters, Pat and Paul Brehm, Judy and Jon Busath, sons, John and Sue, Don, grandsons, Josh and Hollie Collins, James and Ian Hacklander, great granddaughter Chloe Collins, all of California; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be Saturday March 26, 2005 at 11:00 am the Saugatuck Chapel, Dykstra Funeral Homes, 520 Lake Street, with the Rev. Edith Winter officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Saugatuck. www.lifestorynet.com
