So many memories of my dad I could share with everyone
from the special piggy back rides to going ice fishing at Lake Macatawa in the winter. We had so much fun going to the dump together (seriously!) to see what great treasures we could find. (which by the way my mother would never let us bring in the house!) The hours of fun I had walking on the stilts that my dad had made or the times playing "horse" with me with the basketball hoop he put up on the garage. But my greatest memory was our trip to China in 1998 along with my oldest son Jeff. One of my dad's dream was to see the Great Wall of China ~ which we did twice. The first day was raining so we went back the second day. Along side the Great Wall was a man with a camel and you could get on the camel and have your picture taken with the wall behind you. My dad decided to do it after a little prodding from my son and I. Well, my dad got stuck on the camel between the camels humps and we couldn't get him off! My son tried to drag dad off the camel as I was capturing all of this on film. I was laughing so hard I literally peed my pants. It took 2 of us to get dad off the camel (hence where all his camel collection started!) During this time a crowd gathered along side the Great Wall of China to watch the "action" so to speak! Once we got dad off the camel the crowd broke into a loud applause. Dad in his sense of humor turned to the crowd and proceed to take a bow. This drew a huge laughter and more applause from the crowd! What a ham!
The rest of the trip was just as adventurous and we have memories of that trip that the 3 of us will never forget. My dad talked about that trip to China all the way up to his death and we still laughed as we reminenced the story over and over again. Fun times and lots of laughter. The trip brought us so much closer as father and daughter and a bond that only the 2 of us could share. I went several times a week to see dad and will miss our visits together and he still gave me advice on situations all the way to the day before he died. I will truly miss him and the memories we shared will never be forgotten. How lucky I was to have such a great dad!
