One of the nicest memories I have of Maxine is when she wrote a poem for my birthday. I will always treasure it.
Another memory of Maxine was being invited to one of her traveling card parties among her sisters. I certainly didn't realize I was going to be in way over my head by these "sweet" ladies. They verbalized every thought and jumped in to tell me how to play, played for me, argued among each other. I came away with a real appreciation of Maxine's intelligence and competitiveness with the Stafford Sisters.
