I knew Richard as my oldest brother. He was in the Air Force when I was born in 1945. Richard was the oldest brother and I was the youngest. I really didn’t start to know him until I was 23 years of age.
Richard was always one of the topics of table talk at family gatherings. Even though he lived far away, we always remembered him when he was unable to be with us during holidays. He was somewhat of a mystery to us. His life was always interesting, including the out-of-the-ordinary. He seemed to be knowledgeable about every subject and of course had a “better” way of doing things. Every sibling has attached to him true stories and fables. I probably remembered the fables better than the true stories; they were always a bit more dicey than the truth.
One such story is that little Richard, at age 12, bought his first car, which he drove home and took apart to see how it worked. Probably have to check with siblings closer to his age on this one.
Richard was revered by all, either because of his status in the family or his stature as the man that he was. I knew him as my oldest brother, but I also knew him as my brother in Christ.
I will miss my oldest brother, Richard. He was a good man who loved God and family, served others, and brought joy to those he came in contact with.

Dave, I just wanted to express my deepest sympathy to you and your family regarding the transition of your Dad. Since I experienced this myself a few short months ago, I know the shock and pain you are feeling right now. It is my belief that a person does not die but lives on in another dimension. That gave me some comfort but I still felt the loss of his energy, seeing his face, hearing his voice and knowing he no longer walks upon the earth left me feeling very alone. I know there are no words of comfort to offer you right, but I hope you will find comfort knowing you are thought of and remembered in this time of sadness. Please call on Curt or myself if there is anything we can do.

Dave and Family,
The loss of a parent is always so hard. We no longer have someone to call upon for advice. Or just to chat with. We want the world to stop for just a moment and fell our sorrow. Sadly it doesn't happen.
In time, may you be able to look beyond the sorrow and experience the beauty of love which lasts forever.
Wishing you Peace

Dick used to live at Lincoln Square with his wife Betty. I am the Life Enrichment Coordinator there. When Dick and Betty moved in it was like they had been there for a long time. They both had such warm and welcoming personalities. Dick was always involved doing something, finishing a piece of furniture or making shelves or somthing for Betty. he had such a great love for her as she did for him. Dick's mind never stopped working, coming up with ideas on how to do something that would make lives easier. He was one of the most warm, friendliest, kindest, people I've encountered. I loved both Dick and Betty just like family. He will be missed but I am so blessed to have the time with him I did.
