Mom was always doing thinks for us kids. Taking us to the lake for picnic's in the summer and sliding down hills at Johnson Park in the winter. Even though she worked full time she had the time to teach me to sew and cook. We shared many crafts together. Mom could still beat me at Skip-Bo. She always loved playing cards. When we where kids we would sit around the table at night and play cards.Mom had a quick wit and a sharp mind. Even to the end. Mom, I will see you in eternity someday. An We will play cards again. Love Always Your Daughter Alma

I am the life enrichment coordinator from Lincoln Square where Bernice has lived these past 6 years. Bernice was one of the most positive, strong, women I have ever met. She lived life with a passion and never, never had anything negative to say about anyone. She dealt with her near blindness with such grace, it would not hold her back from playing cards everyday, doing a craft or her love of dancing. She has certainly had her share of physical and emotional pain, and through it all continually impressed me with her strength. I really don't know how she did it. She would be in pain and worry how everyone else was. Bernice I'm afraid was a rare and wonderful gem and I know my life has been enriched, and blessed by knowing and loving her. Myself and all of us from Lincoln Square, have been blessed for her to have shared her life with us. I shall never...never forget her as her love is in my heart. God has called her to his side where she so deserves to be. Love you Bernice!

What an honor to be Bernice's pastor. I always loved visiting her with our Lord's Word and Sacrament. I often told Bernice when I would visit that she encouraged me as much, if not more, than I encouraged her. She taught me about faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, that we need not worry or complain, but entrust everything to her care. She confessed her Savior to the end. Thanks be to God for her faith. The people of Epiphany Lutheran Church in Dorr rejoice that even now in death, she continues to join us at the altar every Lord's Day from the other side of the rail. Thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord!

Grandma Hills...

What a wonderful woman. I remember many things about her, but i will always cherish the times I'd go to her house and she tried teach me to knit and crochet. I have SO many scarfs all in different knitting and crochet patterns. I didnt quite get the hang of how to make actual pieces, but a scarf - i could do. She would teach me a new stroke, and have to fix the mess of yarn i would inevitably make. My assignment was to go home and practice then come back the next week with the scarf (usually semi-completed) for her to inspect... Then i'd learn another pattern and repeat. SO much patience she had with me!

I have so many memories of my grandma. From the house on West River Drive and the smell of "Toni" to meeting and becoming reaquainted with her friends at Lincoln Square - and being soundly beaten at Skit-Bo! Some of these include going to the cottage with Grandma and Grandpa Brunner. Petting Skippy. Grandma bringing Tim and I those orange, marshmellow peanuts. Dad and I staying at Grandma's house. The many blankets she made. Going out to dinner with her and sharing meals with her and her friends. I not only loved Grandma, but greatly respected her. Grandma never would complain rarely spoke ill of anyone. One of her comments was "everyone deserves a freind". I look forward to seeing her, Grandpa Brunner, Harold, Dad (Richard), and Tim on Resurrection Day.
