She taught me to read and shared her love of books and learning. She understood concepts far beyond what I could grasp but would wait for me to catch up. Then she would give me a harder subject. She gave me the gift of literature knowing that it was an escape sometimes from a world to bleak to bear. But when life did became tragic and more miserable than words could express, I didn’t have to hide in a book, I could call her, she would come and together we would remain silent and she would understand. Her soul was stronger than anyone’s I have ever known, her capacity for humanity was more than could seem possible, and her understanding of human nature made all who knew her blessed.

If I could hug Aunt Laurie one more time, I would say goodbye and kiss her.

When I was lost, Aunt Laurie found me and took me under her wings. She helped me through High School, motherhood and got me back on my feet when I didn’t think anyone cared. The first thing she told me was to never let anyone know she was nice. It would ruin her reputation. However, anyone who really knew her already would have know how caring and big hearted she was. She would take Tye and Adrian for walks, Burger King , McDonalds and Big T’s. She spent hours with my sons, teaching them the importance of nature and showing them different types of plants, bugs and birds. The person I am today is because of the heart my Aunt showed me and the strength that she gave to me. We love her and know she will be keeping an eye on us from heaven.

Love Sitara, Tye and Adrian.

Things that mean Laurie to me:

Summer, camping, hair, fresh homemade bread, Timber, White Fang, Sylvester, castle lamp, log cabin, flannel shirts, sledding, Indian Pow Wows, picture taking, Ma and Pa Jondall, Big John, Harleys, deer hunting, watermelon, South Haven sand dunes, picking grapes, Huzzy Lake, Freddy and Cindy’s campground, nature walks, petosky stones, the blue truck, Jelly Belly’s, my baptism. Her carefree spirit is the part of her that I will keep forever in my heart. I will love and think of you always.

Laurie would sometimes let me braid her long, slightly knotty twisty hair. On one occasion she let me cut several inches. After finding a few gray hairs, we decided to dye it. Ma Jondall said we said we should wait and see how long it would take for anyone to notice. It took 3 days. Laurie was not about outward appearance but her hair was part of who she was. Playing cards with her and Ma while we chatted about who would or wouldn’t notice the change. Laurie’s hair was her glory, anyone who knew her would know that she hated cutting it. It took too long for a bad haircut to grow out.

I just read Laurie's life story. What a beautiful writing. Laurie had worked for us for a little over three years and was an excellent worker and employee. I wish I had personally known her better. She will be greatly missed.

Laurie,

It has been awhile since we talked. Always saying hi and chatting a moment as we were so busy into our separate lives. We shared our grandma and I have wonderful memories as children. Christmas and Thanksgiving at grandmas. You showed me the hill to go sledding as a child behind your house which I shared with my own children many years later. I will always remember your laughter and fun loving ways. Thank you for being there for grandma and I admired you for the love and devotion you shared with your inlaws. You were a wonderful person. You will be missed by many. Diane
