Kelly (Schrauben) St.George

When I worked at Clinton Memorial, Norbert came in often to have his blood drawn and eat in the cafeteria. He always had a smile on his face and was friendly to everyone who passed by. When he realized that I was also a "Schrauben" girl, he often requested that I be the one to draw his blood. Almost every time he would regale me with the story of what "Schrauben" meant in German and how he and his sisters found out. They were apparently building a model of a blimp and the instructions were in German. The schraubendreher was one of the tools neccesary to put this toy together.

They realized that "schrauben" meant screw because of a toy that needed assembly. It was a silly story, but he told it to me almost every time I saw him. I will miss hearing that story.

I am so sorry to hear of Norb's passing. We were out of town during this time or I would have made a personal visit to the funeral home.

Norb claimed to be my number 1 fan. I have participated in community musicals and I also sing with my husband as well as Polyester Blend. After a community performance for the St. Johns Sesquicentennial, Norb sent me a personal message telling me how much he enjoyed my singing, including that my song brought a tear to his eye. One year before a performance in the city park, he came to the stage and asked for me. He introduced himself to me and told me that he just had to meet me. I was thrilled! On subsequent appearances in the park, he would greet me and tell me how much he loved my singing, often proclaiming to those around him that I was the "best" one! I thoroughly enjoyed those meetings and I grew to look forward to seeing him at a concert. I often told other people, with great fondness, about my "number one fan." I will miss running into him at restaurants and receiving a big hug. It was truly a thrill to know that he appreciated my voice and that he so exhuberantly let everyone around him know it. On one occasion he told me that he thought about me all the time and then he added, "Isn't that awful?" I will never forget these exchanges and am grateful to have been able to meet Norb. God bless you, Norb!

I have heard of a rock band named "Run With Scissors". I told Uncle Norb about this, and said he should name his band "Talk To Strangers". This was a great lesson he taught us all. I still embarrass my kids when I do that, but I have otherwise never regretted it.

So blessed we are to belong to this amazing Schrauben legacy. Our families are forever influenced by the compassion and grace passed along through our parents. My heart burst with pride to belong in this wonderful heritage. Thank you Uncle Norb-of-course!

Uncle Norb was so kind to our family when we moved back to Michigan. He and Aunt Florence would have us over for Sunday dinner at their house in Greenville. He would jog by our house on his morning run. Visiting Rayburn Hardware was always a fun adventure for Chris, Peggy and I.

Norb had an indomitable spirit and charming personality. I will surely miss Uncle Norb, of course.

Love to Beth, Bill and Sue

Uncle Norb always looked to me like Frank Sinatra in his younger years and he certainly was such a charmer. He touch so many lives. Oh we would of loved for him to stay around just a little while longer but I think he decided it was time to go and did IT HIS WAY.

Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 1 Corinthians 15:51-52

My heart and prayers go out to Beth and Susan and all of Norb's family and hope that the wonderful memories and laughter will replace any saddness. Love MB

For several years when I was young, Uncle Norb would send carbon copy notes to us nieces/nephews on our birthdays. I appreciated the effort that this took as there were so many of us.

I will remember my Uncle Norb as one of the most positive people loving human beings that I have ever known. He set a great example of how to live one's life.

I will miss him, of course.
