Jamal, Joe and Fasal-
I am sorry for the loss of your mother and even more sorry that I couldn't be there for the funeral today. I have so many memories of both Susie and your Dad from the "formative" years of high school and college when I was a frequent visitor to your house that to this day still bring smiles to my face. Your Mom was a very unique individual and I loved coming to visit. She always greeted me as one of her own, and as we have all grown, always greeted me with smiles, hugs and kisses. I am sorry for your loss but grateful that I knew your mother.

I remember when my mother Niameh, myself and my sister Reem first stepped into the life of Grandma Susie and Grandpa Yusif. She treated us like her own grandchildren. We had the best childhood because of her heart and kindness. I knew then how special she was to everyone who came into contact with her. You will live forever in our hearts and your memory shall be passed on to our children. We will strive to be as good as you taught us. We love you so much. You were such a positive influence on my life. You will never be forgotton.

My earliest memory was of a visit, as a very young boy, to Saginaw to see Joe and Susie's new Hotel with Mom and Dad - Ann & Frank, who were life-long, close friends with Susie & Joe, a very close friendship that began even before they were married. And over all these years, I cannot recall a single time when Susie did not greet me with the happiest, warmest, most sincere and most exhuberant welcome & a hug. She always - and I mean always - made me feel to be the center of her attention whether I met her at house visits as just a boy or as an adult occassionaly stopping by the Hackley Lobby Gift Shop where she volunteered often. Always a kind word, always that welcoming smile - truly Susie was one-of-a-kind who will be missed, but remembered fondly.

I remember spending an afternoon with Susie in 2002, before we moved away. We spent the afternoon making her delicious hummus, that my husband loves! We made two big tubs that day and they were gone in about three days. She also shared stories with me about my father..that meant a lot to me. She was a wonderful woman and will be missed!

Suzie was a unique, hardworking, loving woman. Her family meant more to her than anything else. She showed how much she cared about her family like a lot of the older generation by the foods she made for them. Her baklava was the best I ever had in my life and I so looked forward to her little gifts of it during the holidays. She will be missed for that and for her outspoken frankness that made her the strong , good stock , Polish Catholic wife and Mother. The Abdelkader's lives will not be the same without her but the memories of her long life will hopefully sustain them for many years to come. Her wish to be with Joe is surely granted and heavenly blessed.

Even though you were not my grandma you were still a grandma to me. I miss the holidays we spent together when I was young. I love you and will miss you greatly.
