Harry Ross Brown Augusta Harry Ross Brown, 73, died peacefully at his home in Augusta, MI on Saturday, May 10, 2008. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on January 25, 1935, the son of Orville V. and Hazel M. (Ross) Brown. Harry honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1956-1959. Harry graduated from North Side High School of Ft. Wayne, IN and furthered his education at Ball State University, Indiana University, and the PGA Golf School in Florida. He served his Golf Apprenticeship at the Ft. Wayne Country Club in Indiana and the Naples Country Club in Florida before moving to Battle Creek, where he was hired as Assistant Pro at Battle Creek Country Club. After serving 2 years in the community, Harry was happy to step up his career and become head PGA Pro at Riverside Country Club, where he dedicated 8 years and, in the process, also started his family. The Battle Creek Golf Community and the beautiful area became a passion for him he wanted to take that another step higher. So in 1972, as a family affair, he designed and built Cedar Creek Golf Course where he enjoyed spending the rest of his golf career as head PGA Pro and owner for nearly 20 years. His dedication was to the members, the sport, and to his course while living out his lifetime dream. In 1996, Harry and Tara moved to warmer climate and enjoyed their retirement in Ocean Isle Beach, NC. In 2007 a move back to Michigan allowed a full year of enjoying family and most importantly, 7 grandchildren before his departure to heaven. Harry was a member of the Professional Golfers Association for over 40 years and the Battle Creek Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed playing and teaching the game of golf, traveling, and spending time with his family. Harry married S. Tara Holmes in Battle Creek on November 27, 1965; she survives. He is also survived by his daughters, Jeanette W. Brown of North Carolina and Denise M. (Bill) Hutchinson of Battle Creek; a son, Bryan R. (Michele) Brown of New Jersey; and his grandchildren, Tyler R. Brown, Justin R. Brown, and Madeline S. Brown of New Jersey, Cameron W. Hutchinson, Carly S. Hutchinson, Connor B. Hutchinson and Caidyn E. Hutchinson of Battle Creek. A private funeral memorial service will be held at the Fort Custer National Cemetery.
