Obituary
Frederick David "Fred" Adams, 83, of Battle Creek, passed away quietly surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at Springfield's Evergreen Manor. He was born September 30, 1924 in Detroit, MI the son of David Earl Adams and Marie (Midgely) Adams.
Fred worked for 32 years with the Battle Creek Public Schools as a painter; painting pretty much every school in the district. He retired in October of 1986. After retirement, he painted privately for area residents.
He married the former Adeline M. "Addie" Malburg on October 10, 1953 in Assumption, Ohio. He is survived by his wife: Adeline Marie Adams of Battle Creek; two sons: Douglas A. Adams of Battle Creek; Kenneth F. Adams and (Sue) of Delton; four grandchildren: Brad Adams of Augusta; Keith Adams of Ethaow, TN; Kyle and Shane Adams of Augusta; three great-grandchildren; a special niece: Summer Adams of Delton; one brother: Alfred F. Adams of Battle Creek; and one sister: Theresa (Wendell) Champloo of North Platte, Nebraska.
A special recognition, to Brad (his grandson) for his devotion to his grandfather's care over the last several years. Fred was preceded in death by parents and step mother.
Fred was raised on a farm in Hudson, MI by his father and stepmother - Julie Adams, she passed away in 1968. He received his education from the Detroit Public Schools. He came to Battle Creek in the late 1940s from Hudson. He was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church where he worked in maintenance for the school and was active in the Men's Club. He was a member of Burnham Brook Community Center and a former Treasurer for the schools' AFL-CIO union.
His passion was hunting and fishing. He spent many hours in his woodworking shop, enjoyed the outdoors, and playing golf. When the boys were younger he was a Cub Master for the Level Park Cub Scout Pack and then took an interest in Boy Scouting particularly taking the Scouts on canoe trips. He also coached baseball and floor hockey in Youth Leagues.
Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service after 2 p.m. Wednesday, where the family will be present from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Prayer Service will be held at the funeral home Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. with Deacon Gary Wright officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. Jerome Catholic Church (229 Collier Avenue) with the Rev. Father John Tran officiating. Burial will follow at the Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial tributes may be made to Alzheimer's Diseases Association or St Jerome Catholic Church or Battle Creek Outdoor Education Center.
