Reverend Walter W. Derylo, aged 64, of Rapid City and formerly of Gaylord, passed away on August 17, 2007 in Kalkaska. Born on March 10, 1943 in Grand Rapids, he was the son of the late Walter F. and Irene (Burns) Derylo. Father Walter was a member of the Arch Diocese of Gaylord and was ordained in Rome in 1968. He has served parishioners in many places including Alpena, Manistee, Grand Rapids, Kalkaska, Leelanau and the Grand Traverse area. Father Walter was very active in the Boy Scouts, enjoyed the outdoors, camping, backpacking. He has traveled all over the world. He was a wonderful brother, son and friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed. Surviving Walter is his siblings, Mary (Bill) Geer, of Gurnee, IL, Ken (Denise) Derylo of Grand Rapids and Valerie (Rick) Gravelyn of Grand Rapids; nieces and nephews, Erin Sykes, Captain Ryan Geer, Jillian Geer, Jacob Derylo, Sarah Derylo, Rose Greenland, Erika Derylo, Jaimie Derylo, Christopher Gravelyn, Angela Gravelyn, Laura Gravelyn and Melissa Gravelyn; uncle, Jospeh (Doris) Stasiak of Grand Rapids. Visitation will be on Monday, August 20th from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Cathedral Catholic Church in Gaylord. On Tuesday visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at Arsulowicz Brothers Remembrance Mortuary, 3525 Remembrance Rd. Wednesday visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grand Rapids with a Scripture service at 8 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, at 11 a.m. at the church with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.
