Katharine (Kay) Bartemeier Roney, died on August 8, 2007 from cancer. Kay was born September 7, 1929, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Leo H. Bartemeier of Birmingham, MI. An elder sister, Mary survives her. A brother, John is predeceased. They moved to Grosse Pointe from Birmingham in 1936. Kay graduated from The Sacred Heart Academy in 1947. Following her college graduation from Georgetown University in Washington, DC, she joined the N. W. Ayer Company in Detroit. During vacations, Kay traveled extensively in Europe with her family, and in 1955 married Thomas J. Roney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward C. Roney of Detroit. They have four married children, Katharine (Morin), Thomas J. Jr., Sharon (Otto), Janet (Gardella); and eleven grandchildren, Kay joined the Junior League of Detroit and was influential in developing the Senior Center and Poison Control Organizations, as well as participating in many charitable volunteer projects over 30 years. In 1963 she joined her husband in establishing Tom Roney Lincoln Mercury dealership in Mt. Clemens. Upon sale of the dealership, she joined her husband in establishing T. J. Roney Company of Grosse Pointe Shores, creating major corporation merchandise and world travel incentive programs, especially for automotive companies, involving trips for large and small groups. Kay was a devoted wife and mother during her 52 years of marriage and had a reputation for elegant parties, extensive generosity and extraordinary thoughtfulness to everyone. In 1984 Kay and Tom retired and built a home on Michigan's AuSable River where they lived, wintering in Titusville, FL. They moved to Grand Rapids in 2003 where they resided until her sudden and untimely death. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass will be celebrated on September 8, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. St. Paul's Catholic Church, Lakeshore Road, Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. The family will be gathered to visit with friends at 9 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution is strongly suggested to Faith Hospice, 2100 Raybrook S.E., Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
