Constance S. "Connie" VandePolder, age 67, of Kalamazoo and formerly of Battle Creek, died Sunday, March 1, 2015 at home. She was born April 3, 1947 in Oahu, Hawaii to Edmund B. and Helen (Simpson) Eaman. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School and earned a B.S. and M.S. in Education from Western Michigan University, she also earned certification from Oakland University and an MA in Vocational Counseling from Wayne State University. She worked several years as a teacher and retired as a vocational counselor for the State of Michigan in 2008. She was active in the American Association of University Women; served on the board of the Kalamazoo Disability Network and was a Red Cross Volunteer. She was also active in Colleagues International and the Calhoun County Republican's. She also enjoyed being a Revolutionary War re-enactor. Connie married Brian R. VandePolder on December 19, 1970, he survives. Also surviving are brothers, Patrick D. Eaman of Wyoming and Dale R. Eaman of Lisle, Illinois; a nephew and a niece; and four grand nephews and a grandniece and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents. A memorial service will take place 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Westwood United Methodist Church in Kalamazoo with Pastor Wayne Price officiating. Interment, Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Northwest Territory Alliance Educational Fund. The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home.
