MANNING, Roger D. Lieutenant Colonel (Retired), U.S. Army Kalamazoo, MI Roger Dean Manning, age 76, passed away Thursday evening, February 26, 2015 in Bronson Hospital. He was born on January 21, 1939 in Jackson, MI a son of Walter and Cleola (Burger) Manning. Roger graduated from Garden City High School in 1957. Roger graduated from West Point in June of 1963. During his more than 22 years in the military, Roger served at many duty stations across the world. Roger was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Beverly A. Fristick. On July 20, 1968 Roger married the former Judith Joeline Johnson who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Christopher P. (Rebecca) Manning of Elkton, MD, Kevin S. (Heather) Manning of Clarendon Hills, IL and Timothy J. (Jolene) Manning of Crystal Lake, IL; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Collin, Liam, Teagan, Zoe, Logan, Charlotte and Luke; a sister, Barbara A. Whaley of Belleville, MI; a brother, Alan L. Manning of Gregory, MI; several nieces and nephews; and his constant canine companion Bandit. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held 2:00 Thursday afternoon, March 5, 2015 at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the service should be in the cemetery cortege area by 1:45pm.
