Arkovitz, Scott Scott Jared Arkovitz (aka Scotty), 25 years old, of Grand Rapids, MI, left us too soon on February 24th, 2015. Born in Massachusetts on January 25th , Scott is survived by parents, Stuart Arkovitz and Lori Deroo, stepdad, Erich Flynn, sister, Hayley Arkovitz, grandmother, Risha Arkovitz, and step siblings, Lauren and Shane Flynn. Scott was an adorable and happy child, with a love and passion for life, as evident in the videos his late grandfather, Arnold Arkovitz, filmed during the early years. Dancing dominated these videos, and not the ordinary kindhe would jump, spin in circles with arms flailing emphatically, and conclude with a dramatic fall to the floor in the style of his earliest musical hero, Jim Morrison. And throughout his life, dancing brought him joy. As a child, he also dressed up as his favorite super heroes, and plotted story-lines with his action figures or, as he called them, his "guys." Scott had many lifelong friendships that no amount of adversity or differences could tear apart. His bright personality was infectious. He was an entertainer and a comic. He had a sharp wit and an accepting heart. He was a rare kind of person who you only had to meet once to remember. Scott loved music and was a passionate film buff, with few films he hadn't seen. Scott took great pride in his Jewish heritage. He attended Temple Emmanuel where he had his Bar Mitzvah in 2003. He went to Israel on the Birthright trip, the highlight of his life, and even spoke of moving there someday. He loved travel and adventure. Scott graduated from East Grand Rapids High School in 2008 where he had a love for theater and was in many productions, often in a lead role. He graduated from Grand Valley State University in December 2014 with a BA in Broadcasting. He interned at WGVU radio and WOOD TV8, and made such a positive impact there as they did on him. He had hoped to start a career in news or radio. Scott will be joining his beloved grandparents Carol Deroo, Arnold Arkovitz and Robert Deroo. Scott will live on in the hearts of the many he has touched and his spirit is so bright that we will continue to feel his presence all around us. "Some candles burn slow and steady and some candles burn bright and fast." Please join us for a memorial service at Fountain Street Church, 24 Fountain St NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503 on Monday, March 2nd 2015 at 6:30 PM. Reception to follow service from 7:30-9:30.
