John (Jack) Lokker

John (Jack) Lokker, most recently of Silverbrook Nursing Home, was welcomed into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Monday, February 16, 2015, after a brief illness.

John was born on May 29, 1920 in Holland, Michigan to Evelyn (Mulder) Lokker and John Lokker, both of whom preceded him in death. He graduated from Holland High School in 1938 where he was President of the Boy’s Glee Club, and a member of the A Cappella Choir and Camera Club.

Survivors include his son, Steve, of Madison, Wisconsin; daughter Jackie, of South Bend, Indiana; step-daughter Lynn Powell of Pacheco, California; step-sons Stephen and Greg Klatt, of South Bend, Indiana; grandsons Chris (Elkhart, Indiana) and Scott (Tampa, Florida) Lokker; granddaughter Jeni Born (Edwardsburg, Michigan); great granddaughters Rebecca Lokker (Washington State); Kara Powell (Pleasant Hill, California) and six great grandsons including Brandon Lokker and Cameron Lokker (Farmington, Michigan). John was preceded in death by a son, Christopher John.

John was a long-time resident of the greater Niles and South Bend area, having moved to South Bend in 1959 to join the Associates, a national financial services firm. He later worked for First Bank and Trust Corporation in South Bend.

He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy from 1942 through 1945 where he participated in a number of Pacific campaigns including the battles of Leyte Gulf and Iwo Jima in 1944 and 1945, respectively.

John was a devote follower of Jesus and faithfully served His Lord in a number of capacities including adult education superintendent and teacher, deacon, elder, and lay minister with churches in the South Bend and Niles area including Fulkerson Park Baptist Church, Bertrand Bible Church, and Redeemer Missionary Church in South Bend.

No visitation or services are scheduled. Burial will be in the Graafschap Cemetery in Holland, Michigan.
