Eltjo Pool, age 68, of Tucson, AZ embarked on his journey to Heaven on January 18, 2015, with his wife and daughter by his side, in Tucson, AZ. Al was born on October 28, 1946, in Kalamazoo, MI to the late Eltjo Pool Sr. and the late Norma Pool (Kiggins.) He attended Loy Norrix High School and Western Michigan University, in Kalamazoo, MI. He was employed at Upjohn Pharmaceuticals production area, in chemical operations, until his retirement in 2001. An accomplished private pilot, Al enjoyed traveling by plane, as well as via motorhome with his wife. He greatly enjoyed learning about foreign culture, hosting two foreign exchange students, Emil Scholten, from The Netherlands and Mario Bedoya, from Brazil. Football season was spent watching the Detroit Lions, acting as the Unofficial Head Coach, and pushing his team to victory. Rivaling his devotion to his Lions, he also regularly coached the Michigan State University Spartans and the University of Michigan Wolverines. During the off season, he enjoyed historical documentaries and books, as well as the many friends he made as a resident of the Voyager Resort. He is survived by his wife Sandra, his sons Eltjo Alexander (Alex,) Derek and Geoff and his daughter Steffanie, along with their spouses. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Destiny, Derek, Anna, Jack, Ethan, Leah, Luke, Eltjo Anderson and Carson. A celebration of his life will be held on February 28, 2015, at 2 PM in the Catalina Room at the Voyager Resort. Memorial tributes may be made to the American Heart Association .
