Theresa Achterhof, age 99, of Holland, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2015.

Theresa’s love for her church and her family were her greatest joys. She was a member of Sixth Reformed Church where she served as Elder, Clerk of the Consistory, Librarian, Catechism Teacher, and member of the Ladies Aide. After Sixth Reformed Church closed, she transferred to Maplewood Reformed Church and has been a member since approximately 1996.

In 1940, Theresa began full-time work at Board of Public Works (BPW) in the Billing Department. As customers increased, so did her responsibilities and she became the first female supervisor in BPW history. After 36 years of employment, she retired.

Preceding her in death includes parents, William and Tena (Houtman) Achterhof; Brother and sister-in-law, Elton and Alvina Achterhof; Brother, Harold Achterhof; Brother-in-law, Leonard Ver Schure; Sister-in-law, Lois Achterhof. Surviving her are sisters, Geraldine (Don) Moore, and Alice Ver Schure; brother, William (Gay) Achterhof and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am at the Mulder Chapel, Dykstra Funeral Homes 188 West 32nd Street. Officiating will be the Rev. Aaron VanDer Veen. Visitation will be Wednesday, 5-7 pm at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation. For more information please visit www.dykstrafuneralhome.com
