Edith Rae Fincher was a faithful wife and loving mother to her children.

She was a strong woman who faced adversities in life and overcame them through hard work and determination. She also had strong religious convictions that began with her childhood influence of her grandmother Margaret J. Barton. Edith was born in Corbin Kentucky on January 13, 1932. Her mother was Martha Ann Barton and her father was Ralph Bunch.

At the age of 15 in December of 1947 she traveled to Holland, Michigan as she and her cousin June Monhollen had signed up to work at H.J. Heinz. Her mother Martha reluctantly joined them in their migration North.

Harold Fincher, returning from Germany in 1948 after four years in the Army, began courting Edith and they eloped on Dec. 9, 1948 in South Bend, Indiana. They both worked hard and raised their three children Harold L. Jr. (Lou) , Russell and Margaret. They later brought Michael Kragt into the fold and made him part of the family after his parents passed away. Harold and Edith resided in Holland their entire married lives and though they were both from Corbin, they were Michiganders through and through.

Edith worked at the first Russ’ restaurant as well as Heinz. When the General Electric plant was built in Holland she worked there for 37 years until her retirement in l992.

Edith was a loving mother and grandmother who always put her family first and enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren. She and Harold spent a lot of time up north in Newaygo County where Harold loved to be and she enjoyed the bird feeders and seeing deer in the fields.

Many happy times were spent during Deer season when all family, relatives and friends headed into the woods.

Edith was a proud and faithful member of The First Methodist Church in Holland. Many dear friendships were developed over the years, and she loved helping out in the kitchen on Senior lunch day where she could work and laugh with all the workers who were her Church Family.

Edith received amazing and excellent care at Oak Crest (Bay Point) as well as excellent loving care at Rest Haven Care Facility. Edith left this world and those that loved her Jan. 6, 2015 at the age of 82 while being cared for at Rest Haven.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Harold, her parents and infant brother Louis Barton who died shortly after birth.

She is survived by her children:_Harold Louis Fincher Jr. and wife Deborah, Russell D. Fincher and wife Meg, Margart J. Fincher and Michael J. Kragt and wife Pat. Grand children Kristi Fincher, Rebecca Curtis and husband Bill, Martha Fincher, Lillian Fincher, Justin Kragt and Alissa Amaya and husband Mike, and Jason Darling. Great-grandchildren, Lauren Smith, Summer Curtis, Errin Curtis, Brielle Smith and Jaxson Amaya. She is also survived by her dear lifelong friend and Ruby Lawson who was like her sister.
