BERENS, HARLAN LEE Allendale Age 54, lost his courageous battle with cancer on December 19, 2014. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 28 years, Jody; daughter, Leah (Eric) Scholten; granddaughter, Norah Jane; mother, Dorothy (Thomas) Peterson; Father, Harley (Carol) Berens; several sisters and brother in laws, step sisters and brother in laws; many nieces, and nephews, as well as great nieces, and nephews; many dear aunts and uncles. Harlan will be remembered as being a loving son, husband, brother, father and "Bapa". He retired from Steelcase after 25 dedicated years. He had a ready smile, positive attitude toward everyone, and never a bad word about anyone, he never met a stranger. Harlan loved hunting, fishing, nature in general, and walks in the woods. As a master tinkerer, fixing lawnmowers and small engines was a part of his life. Anyone who knew him knew he had a straight forward answer to everything and the gift of hugs and kisses to all. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Many thanks to those at Allendale Nursing and Rehabilitation Community for the loving care that was given to Harlan during his stay there. A special thank you for the nurses, staff and doctors of Hospice of Holland for their loving care as well. The love, care and compassion they gave to him was greatly appreciated! Memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday 4:00-8:00 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial contributions to Hospice of Holland. Condolences may be sent online at www.mkdfuneralhome.com
