Bettye Snelson

Bettye Paulette Snelson, age 72, of Plainwell, MI died on December 17, 2014 at Life Care Center of Plainwell. Bettye was born in Griffithville, Arkansas on May 2, 1942, to the late Paul J. Snelson and Marie E. (Bailey) Snelson. She was preceded in death by a brother, James E. Snelson and his wife Sherrie M., infant brother, Ralph Edwin Snelson and brother-in-law, Robert W. Dunbar. Bettye is survived by three sisters, Carol (Joe Paul) Daves and Linda (James Duane) Kitts of Searcy, Arkansas and Deborah Dunbar of Granger, Indiana, seven beloved nieces and nephews and eight great nieces and nephews, whom she loved and enjoyed. Bettye lived in the Kalamazoo area over 50 years. Her career included working at Western Michigan University in the Grants and Contracts Department and volunteering in many community outreach programs throughout the city. A former deaconess of North Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo, she was a founding member of the Togetherness Group, an outreach program for people with mental illness and other disabilities. She loved her Kalamazoo community and had many friends. Her family would like to thank Life Care Center of Plainwell for their compassionate and loving care of Bettye. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Arkansas at Dogwood Methodist Church. Memorial donations may be made to North Presbyterian Church's Togetherness Group, c/o the funeral home.
