Uko "Dutch" Mejeur, age 93, went home to be with his Lord on December 14, 2014. Dutch was born January 8, 1921 in Kalamazoo, the son of Jacob and Elsie (Schipper) Mejeur, oldest of nine children. He was a lifelong area resident and was a longtime member of Centerpoint Church (Third Reformed) where he served as deacon and elder. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army from 1942-46. Dutch was employed as a salesman for many years with Gordon Food Service. On October 1, 1946 he was united in marriage to Johanna (Staple) Mejeur, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Janice (Edward) Hommes of Aurora, CO, David (Kristine) Mejeur of Kalamazoo and Joyce (James) Hendricks of Portage; grandchildren, Kendal (Sonya) Hommes, Timothy (Crystal) Mejeur, Kevin (Melanie) Holwerda-Hommes, Curtis (Nikol) Mejeur, Kyle (Anna) Hommes, Emily (Mitchell) Bareman and Katie (Jeff) Hommes-Algera; 18 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Wubbo (Alene) Mejeur, Jerry (Betty) Mejeur, Ebo (Loralee) Mejeur; a sister, Margaret (John) Vander Ploeg; sister-in-laws, Dorothy Mejeur, Frances Mejeur, Mary Kornoelje; and many nieces and nephews. Dutch was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John and Henry Mejeur; sisters, Rena Rhem and Trena Onderlinde. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8PM Thursday, December 18th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. A Funeral Service will be held 10:30AM Friday, December 19th at Centerpoint Church (2345 North 10th St). A private family interment with full military honors will be held in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dutch's memory may be directed to Kalamazoo Christian School Association, Hospice Care of Southwest MI, or Park Village Pines.
