Frances Brink, Kalamazoo, age 97, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2014. Frances was born on August 11, 1917, the daughter of the late Louie and Rose (Horvic) Horvat. Frances was preceded in passing by her husband, Robert H. Brink in 1999; they were united in marriage on May 24, 1949. She was also preceded by a son, Jack Brink in 1990; and a sister Mary (Burt) VanTrump. Frances was a strong and passionate woman who had a zest for life. She loved dancing to the songs of Elvis and could even be found moving to the beat in her chair as she aged. Frances and Robert were the owners of the Knollwood Tavern, a Kalamazoo institution for 49 years; it has long since been torn down, but the memories still live on! Frances loved living in Kalamazoo but also enjoyed her time "snow birding" in Tucson, Arizona with her husband. She was always proud of her community and enjoyed working and shopping downtown. She had an infectious smile and could make friends wherever she went. She also enjoyed playing bingo and other games with her friends. Above all Frances loved her family. She leaves them with wonderful memories and a legacy that will be missed. Surviving are two granddaughters, Bridget Fox and Lisa (Whitney) Brink-Hansen; 4 great-grandchildren, Sophie and Gigi Fox, Claudia and Conrad Hansen; and a daughter-in-law, Helene Brink-Lenfield. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Memorial donations may be made to the Diocese of Kalamazoo, c/o the funeral home. Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home, Kalamazoo, MI.
