Life Story / Obituary

Print

Pauline was born on February 9, 1929 in Kalamazoo to Norman and Ruth McMains. Pauline passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior on December 10 in Mobile Alabama. She is survived by three sisters (Ethel Willard, Norma Day, Sandra McGuire) and half-sister, Jennifer Weirtz. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was an excellent student as a child, skipping two lower grades. In twelfth grade she missed half a school-year due to illness but still graduated as valedictorian. Being the oldest child in the family, at the age of 12 she began caring for her three younger sisters while her mother worked. Pauline and Dale were neighbors and began dating after Dale returned from WW II, having served in the navy. Dale was her only romance. They would later marry on August 14, 1948 and remained united for over 55 years until the Lord took Dale home in December of 2004.

God blessed their union with three children: Michael, married to Carolyn, Kathleen, and Matthew, married to Jackie. She has nine grandchildren: Carissa married to Jay Beard; Stephanie married to Matthew Pierce; Joshua engaged to Rachel Fouche; Joel engaged to Vilma Gunn; Jeremy; Theodore Gordon married to Carey; Daniel Gordon engaged to Adrianne Hasty; Melissa married to Phillip Williams; and Ashley married to Joshua Wilde. She has fifteen great-grandchildren: Juliana Beard; Caedmon Beard; Avaril Beard; Raegan Beard; Jackson Pierce; Allison Pierce; Tyler Gordon; Ethan Gordon; Brianna Cannon; Isabella Gordon; Harley Williams; Philip Williams; Olivia Williams; Lorelai Wilde and Desmond Wilde.

Mom was a quiet person, but cheerful, and an encourager of others. She was an extremely organized person, and conscientious worker. She was an avid reader. When wrapping gifts, she used nearly as much tape as paper. Mom enjoyed knitting, attending hockey games, and watching her children play sports. Family was important to her and she and her sisters gathered their families together on a regular basis. Mom loved being with her family and especially playing table games with them. She enjoyed attending the Senior Centers in both Portage and Mattawan. She attended church at Texas Corners Bible Church when in Michigan and Woodbridge Baptist Church when in Alabama with her son Matthew and wife, Jackie.
